I was in a casual match the other day where a guy was using it and single-handedly carrying our entire team, it still does like 90 damage on headshot which is insane if you're hitting shots consistently

All sniper really does is get kills. He doesn't generally play the objective in any way other than indirectly helping out by killing people.

If you can get headshots at close range it's about the same damage as a surprise rocket a weakened opponent.
