How about a Sonic game where it focuses on Sonic and Tails trying to stop Eggman. But Sonic becomes hypnotized in the middle of the game, forcing Tails to fight Sonic in a boss battle. After the boss battle you reassume control of Sonic and defeat Eggman with Tails. The other characters like Amy, Knuckles, Rouge, and Shadow will be supporting characters that assist Sonic and Tails. Rouge and Shadow can be boss battles but they don't die since it's Sonic.

I think that having a Sonic game focusing on both Sonic and Tails can a throwback to Sonic The Hedgehog 2 but also give the series a chance to progress itself into an emotional experience where Sonic and Tails friendship will be tested due to Eggman's new schemes and indoctrination ray.

I was thinking it could be a 3D Sonic game in the style of Adventure but it retains the fun gameplay, a reworked camera where it's smooth transitioning, and a story that steps out of the Sonic comfort zone and attempts to really make use of all its characters, and having those characters dramatically the story.
