I... I still think Danganronpa's better...

Why?

999 > ZTD > VLR

ZTD is pure shit, you can't place it above VLR.

You're an idiot. Neat

Yes I can because VLR was worse shit

Okay, why VLR is shit?

999 > Danganronpa 1
Danganronpa 2 > VLR
ZTD > V3

I enjoyed its plot twists more, and I don't think it's just because it was the first mystery vn I played, they were just better in a lot of ways. For example, in V3, Kaede just goes and dies and the protagonist changes, legit blew my mind. I didn't see it coming at all, but it made perfect sense. Still one of my favorite cases. Another example is the Byakuya ultimate imposter plot twist in 2, holy shit it was mind blowing. Now, what did 999 have? Akane being Zero (predicted that, immediately, and it was always in the back of my mind). Also, that the invisible threads or whatever were real, it wasn't even a plot twist, it was hard setup from the beginning and since it only happened during important novel sequences I assumed that it was all true, there wasn't even any doubt.

The supernatural stuff I also enjoyed here, but the game initially baits you into thinking it's going to be realistic, which it's not, and I didn't enjoy that either. I wish there was a bit more to it than that.

Another thing is that I didn't enjoy the atmosphere as much as any of the Danganronpas. I think it was due to the antagonist. Zero shows up once, and he doesn't give you much to wonder about his motive. I really, really enjoyed that Monokuma made such a serious setting as something fun, and the best characters in their respective games added to that (Nagito and Kokichi, elevated the game by a solid point on a 1-10 scale just by being there).

Lastly, the non-linear structure made me forget what path I was on sometimes, though this is a bit of a nitpick. I was just following the keys after my first endings, I forgot what doors I had gone through, what each area was, who went where, etc. Ending was satisfying for 999, but it can't compare to the ending of V3, not even slightly, so it didn't stand out much.

>shitload of fake endings where other characters arbitrarily decide you aren't allowed to win the AB game
>the same characters will bitch at you for picking Betray when they mock you for picking Ally with the same decision
>nonsensical plot twists and sequel hooks after the first game was more reserved

thats because you're a fucking coomer

KEK Danganronpa 1 is hot garbage

Unironically not true since I didn't enjoy most Danganronpa waifus. My favorite waifu of any game is true ending Clover. Danganronpa waifus can't compare to either Akane or Clover, and Lotus is on par with all of them as a character.

Considering DR is just a combination of Zero Escape and Ace Attorney (with a bit of Persona), it is unsurprising that someone would think that ZE lacks good things that AA has and vice versa. So ZE might be worse than DR because it lacks AA aspects. AA lacks ZE aspects. DR has both. However, ZE and AA are better explorations of their central ideas, while DR is just a mediocre middleground.

I think every Jap game about convoluted death games or "everyone just goes BANANAS" global chaos scenarios is dogshit.

OP here, honest question, do you guys think my enjoyment wasn't as high because I played on Adventure mode? I researched a bit after I finished, and I found out that I missed a lot by not doing novel mode. I still understood everything about the ending and all plot twists, but might have my experience been ruined by that?

My enjoyment of Danganronpa > 999 isn't small though, Danganronpa 2's my favorite game of all time, 999's my 5th or 6th.

I wouldn't say Danganronpa 1 is hot garbage, it's enjoyable enough. But as I put in the post, I definitely prefer 999 over it.

You haven't played 999, literally no one "goes BANANAS" and there isn't any global chaos scenario. All the characters stay almost calm throughout and work on finding an exit. The characters behave way more realistically than in Danganronpa, I would say.

>literally no one "goes BANANAS"
Guy that dies at the beginning and Clover.

I don't think the guy in the beginning went bananas, he listened to his comrade who he thought was telling the truth to get out fast and easy, he was nervous during the execution but his mind was pretty calm. Clover does indeed go bananas, and it's justified. If Snake really did die, through her calculations, Santa and Seven are literally confirmed as the killers. She gives June a chance to run, she doesn't, she gets killed. She then kills her brother's guaranteed killers (to her they are), and then even offers you, the person who has shown her kindness, a chance to escape, but you don't take it and she thinks you're against her. I really do think she acted justifiably and didn't entirely lose her mind, or, "go bananas".

Kinda. But Danganronpa 2 is legit good.
Danganronpa 1 is worse than any Zero Escape entry because it feels like a prototype.
V3 is a fun meme thing but not something I would call good.

Imo 999 and VLR are better than every Dangangame except 2, Danganronpa 2 is better than any Zero Escape game, and ZTD and V3 are absolute memes.

I really, really enjoyed V3 though. I'm not memeing when I say it had the best ending in the series, and the Kokichi trial and section was the best in all 3 games, maybe rivaled slightly by the strawberry theme park thing . I haven't played Danganronpa 1 or VLR, so I wouldn't know. Moving onto VLR tomorrow, hopefully it drives up my enjoyment of Zero Escape.

Would you recommend me some similar stuff to my top 5 games though? If Danganronpa 2 was only "good" to you and an "absolute masterpiece" to me, then I guess I haven't played enough games to be able to really judge its quality.

1. Danganronpa 2
2. Totono
3. Danganronpa V3
4. Ghost Trick
5. 999 (or Dark Souls 1, not really sure, but will probably keep it all mystery vns)

Danganronpa is the better series. Great visual novels. V3 is the only game in the series that is garbage. Luckily it can be safely ignored completely. Zero Escape has one good game, 999. VLR is not as good as people say it is and ZTD is a disaster.

I disagree on V3 being garbage, hard. But I guess it's the game most up to interpretation, the community is split on the ending and quality so it's pretty normal you would hate it.

Could you help me find similar stuff? My top 5's above.

>but you don't take it and she thinks you're against her
It's been a while, so I checked but in the Axe ending Junpei does take her hand and then she swings the axe at him. Then in the extra IOS ending, she kills him by injecting him with the drug and leaving him to drown. But yeah, they do have reasons to act like they did though Clover definitely went completely crazy.

Similar games as in visual novels and detective games? Ace Attorney obviously and the Kyle Hyde games Hotel Dush & Last Window if you haven't played those.

I havent yet seen a mystery game I would call a masterpiece.
All dangans suffer from the issue of having too easy cases.

Did you play AA, yet?
Also theres Your Turn To Die which isnt finished yet though.
One of my favorites is Raging Loop, but I know it's disliked by quite some people here.

Outside of that you played like nearly all games because outside of AA, Zero Escape, and Dangan, there sadly no other mystery vn franchises.

He takes way too long, that's my interpretation, at least. I checked the IOS ending too, I don't think it's necessarily canon, but you've persuaded me, she definitely loses her mind. Can you blame her though? Snake was the closest person in the world to her.

Hotel Dusk you mean? It's already on my to-play list, I'm doing VLR -> AA trilogy -> Hotel Dusk, maybe put Ever17 somewhere in the middle, then replay the Ronpa games a month or two before 4 comes out (it'll be announced November 15th, mark my words). Did you emulate Hotel Dusk on DS? If so, how did you setup the screens? Top to bottom or did you have main screen big and second screen small and to the side?

Oh fuck thanks for reminding me about Raging Loop, I saw a thread or two about it and how it was "objectively a better Danganronpa" or something and added it to my backlog, but I lost my HDD a while back and forgot about it. Added again.

Try Paradise Killer and Return to Obra Din for deductive mystery. Try 428 Shibuya Scramble and Somnium Files for similar VN shenanigans.

VLR > 999 > ZTD

Yeah. Dusk. I have physical games for my DS so I don't know about emulation, sorry.

For DS emulation, Desmume allows you to put the screens exactly where and how you want. For Hotel Dusk, it's better to have them side by side and rotated 90 degrees like a book with some buffer in between.

Rotated 90 degrees?

>The characters behave way more realistically than in Danganronpa, I would say.
Well duh, Zero Escape in general has a more realistic and serious tone compared, whereas Danganronpa is not only a cast full of high school aged teenagers, they're also all based on character archetypes exaggerated to a comical degree. Of course the Danganronpa characters would act less realistically.

>Boostrap paradox
Narrative sewage

Guess I won't be checking out this irrelevant shit then. Back to DR2.

Yeah, you have to hold the DS like a book rather than a top/down screen from what I remember.

Remember11 is the only half decent thing uchi has ever put out

DUDE

SCHRÖDINGER'S CAT

1. Please don't, I'm one person and most of Zig Forums widely considers 999 the better game, I just really enjoyed the atmosphere and plot twists of Danganronpa more.
2. Do enjoy yourself with Danganronpa 2, it's my favorite game of all time, and DO NOT READ ANY OF THE SPOILERS EARLIER ON THE THREAD. I DISCUSSED SOME SPOILERS TO ARTICULATE A POINT. Leave this thread immediately, and finish the game. Please.

Every writer making use of and misunderstanding Shrödinger's cat writes SF anyway, so you're already suspending your disbelief. I don't see the point in getting angry at people who are not scientists for not understanding quantum physics (which arguably nobody really understand anyway).
