So I'm not up to par on Warcraft lore and I made a Blood Elf Archer and a Night Elf Mage and I was told I got that completely fucked up and backwards. Now I'm not sure what to do lads. Thoughts?

Belf archer is totally fine though, it's what Sylvanas was before being turned forsaken, and there are plenty of farstrider NPCs running round . Nelf mages on the other hand are are a bit of a taboo since in lore they forbid using arcane magic after the war of the ancients, and it wasn't until Cataclysm that the exiled mages were allowed to practice again.

Honestly though, just play whatever you want, not like wow lore is totally rock solid and not able to be stretched a bit.

Arcane magic is the reason why the night elves split from the rest of the world and became hippies and druids so it's a contentious thing. But it was a long time ago and in a recent expansion they allowed NEs to become mages again
I dont think there's anything wrong with that, if anything it can make for an interesting character profile
