Ecclesia and it's not really close either.

Each has their own niche, but I personally like Portrait of Ruin most, since Richter mode is great, and I love that it's a sequel to the Genesis Castlevania. Order of Ecclesia is too boring in my opinion, since it's either hallways or Dracula's tiny castle that you're going through

God tier: Ecclesia
Decent tier: Dawn
Indie shovelware tier: Portait

Dawn > Portrait > Ecclesia

Dawn > Ecclesia > Portrait
They're all great though.

>since it's either hallways

I've heard this criticism before but it's been years since I played OoE, care to elaborate?

Portrait > Ecclesia >>>>> Dawn

Ecclesia

A PoR style game with Ecclesia aesthetics would be 11/10.

Dawn. Bloodstained is the best of these IGA games though

OoE>DoS>DoS but they are all great games

fuck the last dawn of sorrow was supposed to be portrait of ruin

OoE gets better the further into the game you go and has some great bosses.
DoS has some great areas and while you can feel the touch screen gimmicks seep in it's still a lot of fun.
CHARLOTTE JONATHAN feels more gimmicky than anything but it's fun enough and some of the bosses are cool. It feels like Charlotte is really broken though.

A healthy chunk of the areas are super linear, which is really boring for people who like some semblance of exploration. The game does have good points though, like being the only Metroid Castlevania with even a semblance of difficulty, aside from Circle of the Moon.

Charlotte can get the dick though.

There's even rooms/screens that are complete copies. Really dull.

To be fair, I think the game was trying to mimic Simon's Quest in that regard.

To OoE's credit, it has one of the best iterations of Dracula in the series.

I liked Dawn of Souls the best because the soul system meant you weren't going to get the same playthrough as others unless you grinded for souls.

Although fuck having to use boss souls to upgrade weapons. Especially when you needed all of them to get the chaos ring. What a terrible idea.

OoE for me - a good mix of classic Castlevanias and post-SoTN ones, really appreciate the difficulty and different approach to gameplay. Yes, it does suck that Drac's Castle is an afterthought in this game, but I still enjoyed the game way more than PoR or DoS. Quest system was just as annoying as in PoR, though.
DoS would be better than PoR if not for awful weapon crafting system that literally forces you to farm souls (and some of them are awfully hard to get even with tons of LCK equipment and stat souls) in order to progress your weapon, and of course because of this system you won't get any good weapons from secret rooms unlike in other Castlevanias.
PoR also has issues with Drac's Castle being average, and the whole quest system can be a bore with finding / doing very specific things. The fucking "lol let's a have a long break and force you to clear four reused paintings" also pissed me off (much more than OoE's reused locations, because the game progression didn't fucking halt for hours because of it). But the whole duo system was neat, especially in extra modes (Richter & Maria and Loretta & Stella), though it does feel like Charlotte got the short end of stick and her range of weapons and speels was much smaller compared to Jonathan's. Also the game became piss easy once you get Thousand Blades, because that thing just melted bosses (fucking Werewolf died offscreen because of it).

Also give PoR credit where the AI was extremely competent and you could still give your partner commands to do specials.

Ecclesia hands down! Dawn of Sorrow is good but not by itself, its better to play Aria of Sorrow before, and Portrait of Ruin is ok, just voice acting gets annoying really quick

True, I can't recall anything bad about having issues with AI pulling out something really stupid. I do remember finishing 100% run with feeling of enjoyment (Nest of Evil was neat, much better than OoE's Jiang Shi cave, and I think with two Master Rings it was pretty easy to level Jonathan's abilities), it's just those goddamn four paintings out of the blue that felt like a really lazy way to extend playtime and delay getting access to postgame (I have no issues with bosses or puzzles from those levels, just the whole four paintings thing that would probably work better just as postgame optional paintings for quests and not as an obligatory thing to do).

I enjoyed DoS the most. The touchscreen stuff didn't really bother me and the art style was fine to me since it didn't really affect anything in-game besides character portraits. I thought it had the most interesting areas and best music out of the DS trilogy. I think PoR would have faired a lot better for me if it didn't have repeated themes for areas. Same with OoE. I didn't mind the segmented world but it would have worked a lot better with more variety.

It was clearly padding, but the levels were still solid. Minus the rehash of the circus level.

But the intro to Medusa was god tier where she shatters all the soliders who were turned into stone. That really creates some lore as to how they got there.

>Touch screen gimmicks seep in
You barely use that shit to begin with. Boss seals and busting ice blocks that are rare to appear. whoopie

OoE blends classic and metroivania the best. If you only like metroidvania you probably wont like it, specially because of the difficulty.

I played all 3 and all were great. The circus level on Ruin was fucking shitty though.

>DS Castlevanias
none

Is there a chance of a remaster or port to PC?

Ecclesia by far.

They're absolutely rare but they're still shoehorned into the gameplay and required to finish off bosses.

Castlvania Syphony of the night and Iga really turned this series into shit.

Ecclesia is incredible, but all are worth playing.

DoS and OoE are both great. PoR is good but IMO a step down from the other two.

Ill say Dawn of Sorrow. I love Ecclesias Battle system, but the rest of the game feels kinda unpolished.
