I haven't played many metroidvanias from beginning to end, hollow knight is pretty good, 55/63 achievements they really make you work hard for that 100%

It depends, does having a dash as an extra movement option make the movement more appealing to you? Does wall jumping? Because the only thing that made me feel like was a step back was the double jump in the game especially because of the fact that you bob a lot more than you'd expect in a 2D platformer.

More movement is definitely a plus. Dead Cells got really good once you unlocked all the jump and climb mechanics. I really liked Ori due to the flow as well. Maybe I’ll give it another go and will just have to be more patient.

I'd say knowing how magic works is also a nice way to know that while you only have three spells and your nail attacks, some things are much more useful and intuitive to certain bosses and enemies.

Dead Cells was amazing but I got filtered hard on 2 boss cells.
