My favorite series of all time tbqh
I just wish I wasn’t such a brainlet to learn all the mini games so I could plat the series

Ive never played, I own Kiwami on ps plus. Should I play Kiwami or 0 first?

0 is a little better, gameplay wise they are pretty similar with the styles and everything. But 0 had much more love put into it, specially on the side content, but you can see that the same thing happens in the main story. Take in mind also that most Kiwami substories were taken straight from the PS2 original so there a couple of them that are super short.

tldr; Kiwami was just a cash grab while they were getting ready the Dragon Engine for 6.

Kiwami is a remake of the first game but includes a few winks and nudges to 0 since Kiwami came out later
Ideally you’re fine either way, I personally started with 0 then played through the whole series as I got hooked

Play 0 first.

I don't think its that good but whats insane to me is that anons here play this and say it's a great video game and then shit all over games like the last of us calling them movies when you literally have hours and hours and hours of fucking cut scenes in yakuza just to get to fighting gameplay which isn't worth it.

I enjoy both yakuza and last of us

>niche
Not anymore. Sadly.

Fuckin contriarian snowflake

0. Kiwami is an expansion pack first and a remake second.

A lot of times folks here hate it more because it's a popular game than due to any actual flaw of the game itself

It's almost as if the Yakuza games have a variety of endearing elements and TLOU has nothing going for it beyond its story, which if you don't care about, you're left with nothing but a shitty, generic chest high wall third person shooter.

Tlou is a gay videogame.
And if you liked that garbage, you are a fag.

Kiwami is a sequel to 0 despite being a remake of the first game. Don't play it first, either play 1 on PS2 (Or PS3 if you understand Japanese) and go in release order substituting 3HD for the PS3 version or start with 0 and go K1, K2, 3HD, 4HD, 5HD, 6, Judgment, 7.

What are you having issues with? The only difficult minigames to "learn" are mahjong and koi-koi, and with koi-koi you only need to learn which of the two or three special cards make high value hands so you aim for them. Also Puyo Puyo but that game either clicks for you or it doesn't and I'm in the "doesn't" camp myself.

my opinion is that this garbage franchise needs to be stop being posted on Zig Forums by fans needing to validate their bad tastes in games

I saw yakuza6 being mentioned in the context of the last of us shitstorm more than once due to plot reasons. Maybe you could try that particular entry out.

0 > k2 > k1

Why do random people get angry when they see Kiryu?

2>1>0>6>3>5>4

Apparently in one of the Black Panther games (I assume 2 since it has more gangs) it's told to Tatsuya that going after the guy in the gray suit that comes to Kamurocho every year is a hazing ritual for new gang members. I'd love to know how Fake Kiryu deals with that since he's still dealing with it at least past 4.

yakuza is cringekino

>6'ft Giga-Chad in a land of beta-manlets

Gonna go against what everyone else here has said. I started with Kiwami and think it's a fine place to start. 0 is the best game in the series so starting from it means it's all downhill from there, and Kiwami's nods to 0 are pretty small overall. Kiwami's combat is kinda bad though.
You could also always start with OG Yakuza 1 if you like terrible voice acting.

I love the atmosphere and tone and characters and the batshit soap opera storytelling, but I've never really liked the actual combat all that much (Kiwami 2's was pretty fun, but still no DMC or God Hand).

I'm really excited to see 7's shift to turn-based JRPG stuff.

What's different is that the cutscenes jn Yakuza are entirely skipable and you have full control of the character when the cutscene ends as opposed to TLoU where the cutscenes are disguised as gameplay in the form of walking & talking segments so they aren't skippable

I was literally like you, started with kiwami on PSplus then bought all the others
Start playing kiwami and play 0 after, that's the best experience
And you'll see if you like the game that way

it's good

>and Kiwami's nods to 0 are pretty small overall
Come on man.
>Komaki's training is changed to end Majima's involvement with him.
>Nikkyo Consortium substory to explain why Sera acts out of character in 1.
>PCF is a direct sequel with several characters from 0 saying hi to Kiryu, Kiryu knowing them with a one second flashback, and the story continues directly from 0's events.
>Substory based entirely on the 1980s that quizzes you on stuff you learned in 0 which includes you getting Isobe's fan.
>Nearly everything Majima references or does during Majima Everywhere is a callback to 0, one example being the drinking event where he calls back to the taxes. The only exception is the Dead Souls event.
>Main story has an entirely new ring segment to show Nishiki's anger, Nishiki's self-loathing, and to give us more Shinji.
>New Nishiki cutscenes continue to follow up on Nishiki and expect you to understand Nishiki's character from 0 to some degree to grasp the fall more clearly and understand why he went from the 0 Nishiki to an idiot.
The minor references you're talking about are the Shakedown one when Kiryu's being shaken down by the guy in the alley at the top-right, Amon talking about Majima, and when you go to the Millennium Tower and Kiryu talks about his real estate empire.

They intend for you to be playing this after 0, that's the entire point why there are so many things having their stories continued or elaborated on and why the style mechanics are changed with DoD outclassing everything else making them completely pointless. Yakuza 6 making the substory side of things non-canon doesn't change that.

You arrogant mother fuckaaa is pure kino though.

It's fun, however the flaws feel strong
