So on NG+ just looked at the notebook Node is always in front of with 0 Sen and it says everything is black except for a "68". I don't get the significance of the number.

Depends on the game and if you're wandering into DLC areas, but generally speaking no, that's not supposed to happen.

Both these games allow some chese build that will let you further than you should, but will likely stomp you once you push it far enough.
Look for other areas you may have skipped.
