Unironically it's because we're seeing the final nail in the coffin for traditional "free market"capitalism in the West.
It's easy to think that the "wokeness" of modern corporations is a misguided attempt to broaden sales, but that's not it. Otherwise, they would have gotten the hint after the numerous failures of Gillette, Ghostbusters, etc.
What is happening instead is a merging of government and corporate power into a nebulous "deep state" where information and control replace money as the source of power.
Corporations are seeing the future as one where social credit is persued over mere cash. As we we've seen in the recent times, big corporations have reached a state of being "too big to fail" where they are guaranteed a bailout. Once the US reaches the demographic shift that renders the GOP obsolete, we'll see companies deliberately operate at a loss by doubling down on social engineering, these losses offset by government subsidizing. This social engineering will become their main activity, with their products becoming a glorified front. See China, where business is a tool of the government.

Sex still sells, but corporations are trying something new with social justice and and whatnot, If they can make more modest designs and virtue signal they might be able to grab a new audience while retaining their normal people that won't really care too much about it.
The problem is that they have no sense of tact or reasoning with many of their positions and design decisions.
