I'm calling it, buying this was a waste of money. I beat the original all the way through hell, but this one is too hard. It's not fun to play moment to moment. I've made it past Olmec three or four times, but the density of enemies and traps in the first level is so high that the entire game feels claustrophobic. I'm baffled by all the 10/10 reviews, I think magazines are terrified of getting called "bad at videogames" after the last few years of debacles. There's no way this is essential for all players. If you haven't beaten spelunky 1, it's going to be a brick wall, and even if you have, it's only really worth playing for people obsessive enough with 1 to put up with constant bullshit in 2. Wish I could get a refund.
I'm calling it, buying this was a waste of money. I beat the original all the way through hell...
I was pretty obsessive with the first one so I bought this one, made it to level two so far but it doesn't feel much different to me just different shit. We'll so tho.
git gud
What makes these games different from every other random generated game
Literally soul vs soulless. I have ton of games in my backlog not playing this soi artificial difficulty lifeless garbage. I still got Gungeon, Hollow KNight, Bloodstained, Katana Zero, Return of Obra Dinn, CrossCode, Into the Breach, Outlast 1+2, Iconoclasts, and Dead Cells on my backlog to play.
the first game was overrated shit several tiers below meat boy/isaac
god this game needs to get to pc. tired of consoleshitter casuals
Don't know about the second one, but the first one for me is such an easy game to hop into once you git gud enough. You end up zooming through the levels to try to get to the secret end.
>WHAT?! I CAN'T JUST BEAT THE GAME ON MY FIRST ATTEMPT AND NEED TO PLAY A LOT TO GET GOOD?! UNBELIEVABLE!!
Reminder that Isaac is trash..
>twin stick shooter but with aiming only in the cardinal direction (outside of one rare item)
>tears mechanic is very awkward and are esp. annoying due to the isometric view that makes depth perception for certain shots and projectiles difficult
>player hitboxes are not clearly conveyed and boss hitboxes are inconsistent
>very heavily reliant on room RNG; some rooms are piss easy and others are extremely annoying and unfair if you don't have certain stats or items
>game seems to have few specifications or rules for room layouts or items, which can result in times where there is literally no way to get extra keys despite multiple chests or locked doors
>keys are always extremely unbalanced, with you being literally unable to acquire keys that you need in some situations, but late game you will typically have many dozens of keys you have no need for
>multiple room layouts that force you to take damage esp. if you don't have a certain amount of damage or flight or don't have the layout memorized (Krampus rotating Brimstone attack when against a wall still not fixed either)
>runs can vary from extremely difficult or a trivial joke purely based off what items you get since...
>tons of items do quite literally nothing if you have another better item that overrides it
>tons of items have anti-synergy with each other and...
>you can't drop passive items and also...
>you can't view the name or description of an item before you pick it up which can lead to many pickups either being a huge downgrade or outright run killer
(cont)
Both games look so overrated. What's so special about em?
JUST
(cont)
>little to no description of many items in the game, reliant on the wikia to know anything about the items beyond the most basic/straightforward ones
>enemy colors aren't consistent with their behaviors/characteristics (ex: colors sometimes indicate whether an enemy has ipecac shots, suicide bullets, or explode, but they aren't accurate or consistent between champion mobs and champion bosses)
>most synergies are not actually items that compliment each other, but arbitrary and inconsistent new interaction that these items have (which you must learn through tons of trial and error)
>the screen can be extremely cluttered at times from item abilities or visual noise (esp. during boss rush, Mega Satan, etc.)
>even after just 10-15 hours of play, you will start to see the same rooms repeatedly over and over.
>many poorly designed bosses that make it frustrating to react in time without memorization
>this especially true for champion variants of enemies that make arbitrary and inconsistent changes to attack patterns and behaviors. Since very little time is given to react to some of these attacks, you essentially have to memorize every champion variant and there is little rhyme or reason to how the patterns and behaviors of these enemies work.
>item icons are small and pixelated and don't even show all your items, this is especially annoying on Victory Laps as it can be very difficult and frustrating to tell which items were removed and which stayed
>massive paywall just to be able to look at your stats and a visible list of your items
>hard to keep up with all the minor changes to items/features between Rebirth, AB, and AB+
dwellings is so much more difficult than the mines it's crazy. jungle is a downgrade in difficulty from the dwellings.
Nigger I've made literally 170 attempts and none gave made it past 3-1 despite my having beaten hell in spelunky 1. I've put like 11 hours into this game.
Christ, ruined entirely. This game has the most bland souless artstyle I've ever seen. It's such a massive downgrade, for seemingly no reason.
Lol that fucked me up bigly when I saw him. I was what the fuck?
it’s literally a different thing tho
Hmm why is a game that doesn't deserve 10/10s getting 10/10s? Why dammit.
How is the online not fixed yet?
True final area is some weird living city shit with frog and fly enemies. Hundun is the final boss.
Dude get fucking good. Been blasting through this shit like its free and I haven't touched spelunky in years.

People who want/expect to be immediately good at Spelunky 2 just because they were good at 1 and then throw a shit fit when they don't find all the secrets within the first 10 hours should consider CBT.
He's an alien replica of the original Olmec, of course he'd look like a chinese bootleg.
I've warmed up to almost every aspect of 2 except the art. I don't know what they were thinking. The music is also pretty dry.
You must suck, I unlocked all the shortcuts by my 8th hour (one which requires you to bring the golden key to the last like in the first game).
List of areas:
1.Dwellings
2 Jungle
3. Volcana
4. Olmec’s Lair
5. Tidal Pool
6. Temple of Anubis
7. City of gold
8. Duat
9. Abzu
10. Ice caves
11. Neo Babylon
12. Tiamat’s throne room
13. Sunken city
14. Unknown entry
15. Hundun’s hideout
16. Unknown entry
Cosmic still hasn’t been found.
Seems like there’s actual lore this time.
Aliens are fighting against the olmites because Tiamat favors them.
Faggot.
Rebirth is still fun to me despite those flaws.
>Return of Obra Dinn
>CrossCode
you're in for a good time. let me highly recommend Wuppo
You forgot the most important point: the game isn't even especially difficult, but which items completely dictate whether you will have a fun run or spend 10 minutes on chipping away at damage sponge bosses with no attack ups.
oops wrong thread xd
