Wait, what? They're releasing it on PS4 in Japan, but not even bothering in America? Is Sony America just giving up or what? This reminds me of back when PS3 games were still getting released in Japan but Sony America refused to let them localize them because they wanted people to buy the PS4.
Wait, what? They're releasing it on PS4 in Japan, but not even bothering in America...
>is sony america giving up
Its NISA thats giving up. Luckily the jpn version may have an english option
How is it NISA's fault at all?
Sony America wants absolutely nothing to do with anime
Nisa doesn't want to put up with sony anymore, so they decided not to.
>NISA who used to be known for self-censoring shit and doing meme translations long before sony's new policies went into place now don't want to deal with sony anymore because of their censoring policies
Good on them, but this is a weird ass timeline we live in.
Nip companies are tired of Sony censorship.
Give me one example of NISA censoring something. I've seen memes and name changes, but never censoring.
>Is Sony America just giving up or what?
NISA dosen't want to fuck with Murrikunt's censorship policies which force themselves into all sony games now.
for now
It is kind of interesting how things changed, Nintendo used to be the company with draconian censorship in the Wii U era, but after being dragged hard for it they did a complete 360 and walked away from censorship, and now they are the most censorship free company on the entire market.
180, you dummy.
Not if you walk backwards.
Probably the biggest example was them deciding to localize Criminal Girls, a game built heavily around fanservice and a "punishment" minigame where you discipline the girls, and then censoring said minigame by adding pink mist to cover the naughtier parts while also removing the dialogue and changing it from "punishment" to "motivation". In 2 they even went so far as to redraw some of the art.
Mugen Souls Z, which they also localized, had a similar minigame and they went a step further by removing it completely.
Honestly don't know how you forgot those unless you intentionally kept your head under a rock. Even fucking Kotaku of all places reported on how excessive the censorship was for Criminal Girls at the time.
D5 flopped on PS4 at it's release, though they choose a terrible release date. On the other hand it sold extremely well on switch and to a lesser extend on PC.
Also the plebstation turned it's back and spit on anything related to the japanese subculture those last years. Japanese developers have every reasons in the world to shit on them and to rely on switch and PC, which they do.
The only mistery is why they still do even bother to release the game on PS4 in Japan.
Japan seems whipped as fuck and refuses to leave Sony despite being treated like trash for all these years. It's strange since Nintendo is a Japanese company too. They have no reason to be afraid.
Sony said they will be supporting PS4 for like another 2-4 years.
Chances are there will still be a English version on PS4.
What about on PC?
That's not up to Sony.
Or maybe Nintendo payed for west exclusivity
That would be the first time Nintendo has ever done something like that. Why would they do it for Disgaea of all games? It's not even that popular.
>DS5 flopped
Yeah because it was a garbage and incomplete game.
>muh censorship
Then how come Atelier Ryza 2 is still coming to PS4?
D5 just didn't sell well on PS4.
DS5 isn't out yet. They need to make DS4 first.
>how is it the publisher's fault that something isn't getting published
By waiting for a PS5 version, they can sell at launch for $70 by 2022 instead of try to publish a PS4 game late 2021.
I can confirm that it's only because Nintendo is paying for the localisation in exchange for temporary exclusivity no big deal. It will come to PS4/5 in the west a few months after release.
everyone sayins censorship but honestly disgaea wasnt selling very well in the west on ps4, but it sold well on switch, so why would they waste their money making a ps4 verson of an unpopular game? also keep in mind the ps4 is soon to be a thing of the past
What about PC?
>from "punishment" to "motivation"
>The only mistery is why they still do even bother to release the game on PS4 in Japan.
There's still a fanbase for it, even if it dwindled. Disgaea 5 didn't sell well on Switch in Japan at launch (it did even worse than the already underperforming PS4 version), it would be risky to limit it to that. It only became a big success on Switch in the west.
But they're still releasing it on PS4 in Japan and its subject to the same guidelines it would be if it were released in the US
