What is wrong with me?

>own PS4, Switch and a gaming PC (2080 that I got on the cheap)
>my PS4 hasn't been on in 6 months and my Switch I barely use except for the occasional bed-gaming
>the most fun games I play are very simple games, Alliance Alive HD, Echoria Ancient Echoes, Valfaris and other very non-demanding PC games
>have no interest in the latest AAA stuff, barely even care that Red Dead Redemption 2 is on my wishlist
>haven't bought anything above single-A/double-A tittles in years
>most fun I've had this year was with Tower of Time
>even after the PS5 conference, which I thought would get me hype, didn't at all
>feel no drive to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X

Am I jaded?
I don't feel any desire at all to even acknowledge the AAA industry despite everyone else seeming hyped up as fuck. The games just don't look fun.

>Am I jaded?
Probably. That however is not your fault. Anyone with a brain can tell that the AAA industry is mostly soulless trash, remakes and remasters. What you're picking up on is something most long-time gamers have felt coming for a while now.

The AAA industry is straight up trash right now. It might have always been.

You sound like a young gamer. Don't take that the wrong way, but most older millenials have been feeling this for a while now. You might be jaded but you're not abnormal for feeling that way. The only one who are actually excited by the AAA gaming industry are the bottom-feeder normalfag trash. Your ascent beyond them will feel painful but your eyes are opening and you're realizing something most people on this board already know.

It feels rough when you realize where so many people on this board are coming from but it's not you who's damaged for finally being able to see what trash surrounds you. Keep doing what you're doing, find enjoyment where you can from the games you like and don't worry so much about the AAA industry. Now that your eyes are open you will soon realize that it's out of your hands.

The AAA industry is devoid of gameplay innovation. All the good new games I've played were indie stuff I played in bed on my switch, and 3DS games I've went back to play since those are cheap as shit now.
I haven't upgraded my PC in years because all the new shit is just the old shit gutted and with shit performance, so I'll always prefer to play the old shit.
Wait for the industry crash.

fun things are fun, and triple-A releases are made not with fun in mind, but with money. even the fun triple-A games are made with the need to suck your money out of your wallet. so it's ok to not get excited about them.

Thanks lads. And yeah you're right about my age. I'm 19 and don't feel a connection to any of the modern gamin industry at all. Maybe I am opening my eyes, but it hurts, it feels bad to talk to my friends who are all super hyped about playing Fortnite on the PS5 while I just shrug and go back to my niche turn-based JRPGs that look like they were made in the 90s.

I might have to do that. It feels bad though, for so many years I cheered as there was a new Playstation announcement, or stared with envious eyes as the new Gears of War was announced. Now I just feel... nothing. No excitement, no hype, not anything.

On the bright side, since you already play low graphics RPGs and such you have a TON of games to play from the past while the industry burns and hopefully rises from the ashes.

imagine devoting your whole life to playing video games instead of raising a family or something and then still not understanding why your life feels unsatisfying and thinking it’s because you just need better video games lmao

I think you sound like a braindead zoomer who's finally realized that the gaming industry hasn't been good for a VERY long time. If it helps any, this realization is usually tough on most people.

This dude is spot on. The gaming industry makes waaay more than Hollywood right now and that they want to keep that money pile growing however they can.

Same but I hacked my switch and use it to demo a shit ton of indie games. I found some gems I enjoyed enough to finish. PS4 I barely touch since there's only like 1 or 2 games I play on it a year.

I love Alliance Alive, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with you. I feel the same way and mostly play stuff like that or Etrian Odyssey but don't feel jaded. The current AAA lineup does just look really boring, there's not a whole lot in there. But there's still plenty of good games to play that aren't coming up in the future.

Haha, yeah. Imagine being on Zig Forums saying something like that.

Yeah, that does cheer me up a little. I've been playing Bahamut Lagoon on a SNES emulator recently and it's really good. I am having fun exploring backwards and it's a little sad that I just don't see this type of passion and creativity from modern games. Thanks for cheering me up user.

>The gaming industry makes waaay more than Hollywood
Holy fuck there are people with this actual level of mental retardation?

If is to be believed, the kid's 19, and if he's been a "gamer" since youth like a lot of us were, I understand how it can feel a little disheartening to see your hobby burn up in front of your eyes.

Plus depending on his location, the economy might not be recovering well enough yet for a 19yo to think about a family or anything else besides physical fitness and learning stuff online.

Woops, linked the same one twice. Here's the third:

I feel this but Zig Forums makes me want to quit gaming entirely

gaming industry will never crash. Might see Xbox stop being made after this gen, though.

user... this is the year 2020

There can be one "problem". You are not bored with gaming, as some may think. You just have fun with games that are not really popular, and there is nothing wrong with it. Big games usually bring a big disappointment.
>The Alliance Alive
Well then, my friend, I think it's time for you to take the SaGa pill. Try Romancing SaGa 2 and 3. Remakes are available on every current gen platform.

Don't worry zoomer. You're just becoming one of us (for better or worse). The fact that you're here means you've been surrounded by people who are willing to show you the truth of the industry and now that your eyes are open, the light hurts.

After a while though, it'll stop being blinding and you can just kick back and laugh at the normalfags who try putting out the fire with gasoline.

Honestly I stopped caring around the time the xbox one and ps4 came out in 2013-2014 era. Never thought about it like hey I need to spend 400 dollars on a new console. I just kept buying 360 games cause they kept getting so cheap. It's not like I got alot of games for it but I got at least a 100 xbox 360 games now and I got a bunch of a og xbox games. Got a wii hacked with a 32 gb card filled with gc games and old wii ware and a decent stack of gc and wii physical. I'm happy with those systems. I dont really see a need to buy new shit when theres probably a good game I havent played on a system i got .

Industry practices and a lot of new major game releases being disappointing (Like Sword and Shield, even if it sold well to kids and drones) seem to be causing similar feelings for a lot of people. Most of my friends I don't even see buying newer games anymore, just picking up old stuff on sale and sinking more hours into old favorites they already had. Or some even turning to mobile games saying if AAA titles are going to push microtransactions, live service update structures and DLC, might as well just play free games.

I haven't turned my PS4 on in a year and my Switch has been collecting dust since May when I ditched playing Animal Crossing because the new one sucked. I'm just playing shit on PC I bought 2-3 years ago now.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh play old games retard
i guarantee you havent played all of the old good games

There is nothing wrong with choosing to turn away from modern AAA garbage. You're not jaded, it's just not good. This is confirmed if you find a much older AAA game that otherwise have no relation to and enjoy that as there is no nostalgia-bias. If all you do is keep playing the same old games over and over and argue that THOSE are better you might have a nostalgia-bias.

>uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Is this what happens when you get a stroke?

That's what they said in the 80s.

It's different now though considering it's one of the planet's most profitable markets.

This. The more you distance yourself from it the easier it gets.
