not that easy anymore, the easy-peasey software route got closed up, most people who bought consoles before Pokemon have it but new consoles won't and need a hardware mod.
In terms of banning, it's pretty safe.
You can use emunand and strip your product info from that virtual storage so it's like having both an untracable hacked and unhacked switch on the same console.

SwSh did corrupt SD cards, only it did it with the legit unmodded consoles too.
So you were actually safer if you were modded, because you can restore all backups super easily.
