It’s not as fun as I remembered.
It’s not as fun as I remembered
that's why I prefer SM64DS. it's way better.
I just don’t like the blurry textures in SM64DS
It’s more fun than I remembered.
Then again, my first time playing was with the DS, and later on with N64.
I think the D-pad hindered my enjoyment.
They could have improved the camera a bit
it's as fun as I remember
Are you playing with the joycons or with another controller? Because the game is infinitely better to play when using sticks that don't have a really short travel distance.
The textures and sound are shit, and the controls are fucking garbage unless you jump through a bunch of needless hoops to trick the game into letting you use analog.
SM64DS is terrible. The controls are worse and the extra content is dull and actively makes the game worse since it adds unecessary backtracking.
>I Hate Popular Thing
Would you like a cookie user
I never said I hated it, because I loved it when I was a child. I just don’t think it holds up as well 24 years later.
Hope you didn't spend $60 to find this out
because it's a shit game and you only liked it because you were young
Honestly the camera has aged like milk
but poor nintendo is just an indie studio so they couldn't be bothered doing anything beyond replacing like 5 textures
64 still has some of the best movement in a 3d platformer. The part that's hit or miss is the levels. Some really great ones, but also some that drag.
Which ones are the worst in your opinion?
The big issue trying to replay 64 and sunshine is that the "mission" structure is ass. Star and sprites should be spread around the levels like in Odyssey and not boot you off the map after every one. The way 64 and Sunshine do it allows for both:
>game just recycles stars by placing something slightly different at the same location, like placing a boss, a few platforms, a race, some star pieces, etc, at the top of the same hill
>Discourages you from seeking multiple stars at once, since completing most of the objectives for one star mean nothing if you end up getting another star before you finish
Test
Cool
Sucks for you.
Camera is wank, game is fun and movement is fluid.
This and oot are fucking overrated by smelly +30yo permavirgins Nintendoids.
Just play the PC port, that's what I'm doing. I bought the collection for Sunshine and Galaxy.
Not him, but Lethal Lava Land is pretty shit. The first two objectives are practically identical (knock the bully into the lava), the red coins are all in one location, it's easier to not use the log at all and use the lava damage to jump to the star in the rolling log mission and the two missions inside the volcano are also pretty similar (with the elavator one mostly just involving standing still while it rises).
its pretty much the same as i remember, get your brain fixed
It's a literal tech demo and doesn't even remotely feel like a Mario game. It's like they forgot it was even supposed to be one.
Is your entire personality being a contrarian or do you just flash those colors here "for the lulz"?
You’re right but it makes sense for a smaller games like SM64. Otherwise the game would be a pretty short experience.
It's more fun than I remembered.
infinite skill ceiling
WA HAH
Majora’s Mask is good though.
if the thumb nub didn't exist I never would have beaten m64ds
what a shit remake
Zig Forums is full of people who praise the games that they've played in childhood and in their teens. All the other nostalgic fucks then join on the circle jerk when you say new bad old good.
press L to make camera controlled by mario, and press down on the right stick
there, I fixed the camera
Based and redpilled.
That's as bad, if not worse than the default
shit like collecting 100 coins would be terrible filler in any other game, but in mario 64 they challenge you to explore the whole level. which makes you appreciate the level design and controls
so?
>Lethal Lava Land is pretty shit

I just wish a true sequel on the 64DD actually existed so that there could be levels that ramped up the difficulty and took advantage of cool movement. Romhacks exist now, but I think it would've been amazing at the time to have another Mario 64 on the same system with more developed environments like how Majora's Mask is to OoT.
How do I stop from burning myself out? Almost every time I play SM64 I start off really strong and on pace for 120 coins but by the time I reach the 3rd area with tall tall mountain and the like I'm ready for it to be over.
With 64, part of the challenge was discovering where the star is for the first time. You just have the mission name as a hint. Admittedly that aspect is lost on subsequent playthroughs since you know where everything is, but since you only need 70 stars and you can pick up a lot of them out of order, you can just focus on collecting the less tedious ones. I do think the structure Odyssey uses is superior, but 64 works well enough. And since the game is pretty relatively small, even 100%ing the game doesn't take that long on repeat playthroughs.
this is why banjo kazooie is king
What the hell even is the Big Haunt? This place has always been unsettling and creepy to me.
>muh contrarian
Tried playing oot but I can never finish it because of how it aged like milk.
Bing bing wahoo is "alright" but it's not a fucking masterpiece.
So maybe shake off the nostalgia and look at the games objectively. Most of the games i have fond memories of have been shit with the nostalgia being the only redeeming quality.
It's great with a Pro Controller. I tried it at my cousin's earlier today since he got it. But yeah Nostalgia carries the shit out of the title. Mix that with the memes speedrunning community and the rest of the autistic fans i guess. It was good back in the day for the 90s obviously
And its legacy has definitely inspired many more games.
Seriously if Nintendo remade this in odyssey graphics and fixed that fucking camera it would be the best in the series no competition.
3D World is still my favorite mario though I honestly just want that one.
those games are designed for children. the fact you couldn't play them does not reflect well upon you.
okay. what does that have to do with sm64?
Banjo-Kazooie has vastly inferior controls to Super Mario 64 though and the objectives are more tedious. Not kicking you out after each jiggy/star is pretty much the only thing it does better.
>you HAVE TO like popular thing
shut the fuck up you bitch
SM64 is literally too complicated and deep for shallow zoomers. Stick to Galaxy you clowns.
I'm not struggling to play them you fucking retard they just bore me to death.
I'm playing spelunky 2 right now and I'm having X10 times the amount of fun with it. Fuck your old outdated turd nintentrannie.
64 is the second easiest 3d mario
first place goes to odyssey, which is straight up toddler mode
So basically r*ddit
This isn’t unique to SM64, unironically take off the nostalgia glasses
>you didn’t like it, that must mean you couldn’t beat it!
Try harder, faggot
sounds like your problem.
why try harder when it works on idiots like you?
You just don't realize how important and influential those two games were for 3D videogames
