motion sickness is a entry barrier into VR so huge, no amount of games or lower prices can overcome it.
It's clearly here to stay, but when 40-70% of users get sick from artificial locomotion, you will never have AAA VR games that aren't funded directly by the headset manifacturers. It will always stay a niche.
VR will never take off

its no coincidence that the only good VR games don't use artificial motion at all and only roomscale
I get motion sick just from existing. There is no way I will ever be able to experience VR
Are there any real games yet besides Alyx or is it all still hour long tech demos/shooting galleries?
Sailing will never take off
Motion sickness is an entry barrier into sailing so huge, no amount of ships or ocean conditions can overcome it.
It's clearly here to stay, but when 40-70% of sailors get sick from turbulence, you will never have yachts that aren't built directly by the ship manufacturers, it will always stay a niche.
Gee if only the affects of motion sickness lessened through exposure
only a fraction of people get sick during normal weather, retarded comparishon
Sailing exists because it facilitated the birth of massive scale global trade and transportation. It had an insanely massive pragmatic purpose without which it would have went fucking nowhere. Your analogy is absolutely retarded and I'm 100% convinced that anyone who uses analogies as an argument is legitimately clinically retarded.
>no amount of games or lower prices can overcome it.
I dunno. It was pretty bad my first day and completely gone by the third day. It was overcome quite readily.
>when 40-70% of users get sick
That sounds like bullshit. Where's your source?
vr just gives me splitting headaches after a couple minutes of use
Motion sickness can be overcome. The major issues are that most people don't play vidya to stand around for hours, how cumbersome and buggy VR is to use, the awful control schemes that are designed for retards, I mean the list just goes on and on.
We currently have about half a dozen major VR controllers. VR, right now, has exactly one use case, FPS games. Guess how many controllers have a dedicated mag release button? None of them. Alright, how many gun shaped controllers do we have? One that was barely produced and requires a 150 dollar add-on to work, and a few that were made for arcades that run closer to 1000 bucks each. Okay, what about recoil? None of them have it.
Alright, let's pretend that there's a new 150 dollar accessory that gives you a handgun with recoil. No games will ever support it, you'll have to rely on the "community" to hack in support instead of making more furry anime garbage for VRchat. Good luck with that.
And after all of that, the PPD of 16 ensures that getting a decent sight picture will always be close to impossible and require perfect conditions of a black gun sight on a white background.
AR is the future. the weak will be culled.
Imagine actually believing this. You are the 2020 equivalent of people who said the internet would never take off in the 90’s.

>"With contemporary commercially available VR systems, the incidence of motion sickness after only 15 minutes is anywhere from 40 to 70 percent," said Thomas Stoffregen, a kinesiologist at the University of Minnesota. For some applications nearly 100% of users get sick, he said.
this, artificial locomotion has no future.
Well fuck me, someone posted a statistic of Zig Forums and actually backed it up with some kind of source when called out. This is literally the first time I’ve ever seen it happen in all my 14 years. Congratulations.
welp another fail for valve i hope this would convince them to stop fuck around and go back playing games
Define "normal weather" using Douglas sea scale, because I've seen an entire group of first timer students puking up and being incapacitated for the majority of a 10 hour trip on a small sailing vessel on a scale 4.
Why does there exist more VR headsets than actual AAA games?
It’s as if these companies only care to sell you a stupid gimmick and then make you buy the next headset.
I’ve had my CV1 from the beginning and literally only 1 triple AAA games has released. It has been 7 years now! Wouldn’t we have had more triple A titles by now or a bigger community? Ps1 and Xbox became massive in the spans of 7 years why can’t VR get two tripple A games?
AR > VR
The VR headset is too heavy and bulky, a pair of VR glasses would be perfect.
No idea why it haven't left the mobile market yet.
I've flown through the skies of forgotten places and amidst ruins while hellish winds screamed through ruined arches. You fools want vr? Go make those places. Idiots.
If you get motion sickness from anything you're a failure as a human. A weak little pussy.
It's like being allergic to peanuts, if such a little thing can kill you, you deserve to die.
You fail the genetic lottery.
VR will seperate the weak from the strong.
...
>You fail the genetic lottery.
>VR will seperate the weak from the strong.
No it won't because VR will never take off
The community is so starved and desperate for any form of VR entertainment that every discussion devolves into shit talking who has the best headset and pointing fingers at people criticizing how bad the industry is handling the tech.
There is no games discussion and VRfags has admitted on many occasion that it’s is because of the lack of actual content. Look at fucking /vrg/ the main hub for VR discussion. It is nothing more than a elementary school of adults playing Barbie dress up in VR while gossiping about each other. This is what VR has devolve into a bunch of degenerates and angry slaves ready to strike down any criticism for their faceless cooperate overlord.
What in the god damn?
It's funny how VR has become the realm of zoomers who would've been addicted to SL if they were born 20 years earlier. Tranny lolcows who just want to spend hundreds of dollars on FBT and then hump each other while moaning.
Really shows you the potential of the concept.
I like to see poorfags cope in these threads lol.
>Imagine being a motionlet
How does it being a genetic dead end?
>How does it being a genetic dead end?
FPS games will never take off
motion sickness is a entry barrier into FPS so huge, no amount of games or lower prices can overcome it.
It's clearly here to stay, but when 40-70% of users get sick from artificial locomotion, you will never have AAA FPS games that aren't funded directly by esports leagues. It will always stay a niche.
