It's highly unlikely the initial wave isn't going to be the only time they will make stock available before launch and end of the year but considering how badly Sony botched things, I wouldn't be surprised if they won't announce them and you'll need to use Twitter or something to figure out where and when to preorder.

They gave approximately 24 hours notice in a tweet that preorders were going up next day after the Sony presentation on the 16th and some people believed it and went to sleep.

What happened was Walmart decided to break the date on the preorder because Sony didn't write in the contract or do anything to dissuade breaking the preorder date and so Walmart literally started making preorders available and they had the balls to announce it also via Twitter.

What happened was all other retailers jumped in after and broke the date as well. Skeptics and people who were tuned in social media who weren't asleep got the heads up notice and started scrambling to get in orders and the entire preordering situation turned into a free for all. And people woke up on the 17th expecting to get in preorders only to find out they got snatched up overnight. This was despite what Sony's head of marketing said to Geoff several months ago. So lots of people were upset.

Probably the biggest fuckup from Sony during the PS5 launch that they will ever do. It didn't help the lying by omission cross-gen news about games that were announced for PS5 were also coming to PS4 came out at the around the same time and heaped negative press on Sony.

I’ve been calling it for a while but now I’m posting it:
A pro model will be on the market within 8 months. A lot of the ps5 titles are 4K30 and performance mode (dynamically dropping resolution among other things) at 60fps. The console sounds underpowered and stock is oddly already allocated for 2021 in Australia.

8 months is too soon to do another chip design and get it to manufacture. TSMC silicon foundry is booked for 5nm and 7nm. 18 months is more realistic if they literally started today.
