Whats Zig Forums's opinion? Trash or worth a play?
SOMA
hide and seek simulator lite but the story is pretty good at least.
Anyone in here besides me know the significance of that word, "Soma"? Surely Zig Forums is literate.
I don't but I can tell it will be *extremely* hard to google this. Hold on while I get my google started.
It's a very interesting thing, the story wouldn't work if it was a movie or book, and it's one of those games that truly takes advantage of the medium
On the other hand the gameplay is dog fucking shit, but it's still very much worth experiencing for the story alone
Hint
It's a drug
Okay my google is still starting
this game is absolutely awesome if you're into cool horror themes
Didn't care much for the gameplay but I love deep sea exploration and it had some great moments.
Walking simulators have shiny walls and half a book worth of introduction storytelling, have hidden rooms and long corridors as you walk through the middle, then end with "it was all a dream lol". SOMA is no exception, good start, great playthrough, shit ending that makes you regret the buildup.
Walking simulators are like the hype for Cyberpunk 2077, 7 years worth of great material, then it ships a toilet and inside is your reward.
>the last human scene
brave new world is a shitty high school book. imagine bragging about it, it's like telling people the hobbit, of mice and men or the great gatsby is your favorite, fucking pleb.
Who the fuck said anything about brave new world
It's trash that's worth a play. Lots of great environmental and sound design, lackluster core gameplay.
>Surely Zig Forums is literate.
fuck off faggot, you were clearly referring to that shiterature as opposed to some religious meaning, don't try to save face because you read like 3 fucking books in high school and think you're intelligent as a result.
In Brave New World yes but in the game it's from the Greek it means body. Half the game is Greek stuff, why would they suddenly use the name of a fictional British drug?
I'm not the guy you were replying to, fuckface.
It's only potentially the last human.
Really I wonder what the surface is like. You catch a glimpse of it in the ending scene and there are some looping videos from that ship that survived the initial impact. Surely there's some life left out there.
That's fine you're still fucking retarded then for not realizing that he was clearly referencing the book and not the religious symbolism
Weren't the machine's rebuilding the station anyway? The GAU or whatever it was called? She could technically soon be surrounded by a whole host of her friends in machine bodies.
more importantly than "body" in greek it's a drink that sustains immortality for hindu gods - which is effectively what they're after in SOMA
The WAU wasn't rebuilding the station, it was at best maintaining what there was but it was continuously degrading.
>clearly
That word doesn't mean what you think it means.
It's okay if you never played or pick up a book that dealt with the subject matter, since it has some neat ideas, but they're tired and surface level. It flirts with taking the concept further but never does. Gameplay wise it's cookie cutter Frictional shit, jankily animated walking sim with shoehorned in stealth elements and basic bitch puzzles.
Probably the weakest Frictional game for me, but every single Frictional game I play I like less than the previous one. They're a dev that had one cool idea and keep rehashing it, they're stuck in the past, which is funny for a dev that influenced a decade of horror games.
You defending a person whose only literary knowledge is a fucking high school read means that you clearly don't know what the fuck you're talking about
I remember it was doing fine, though I think you're right on maintaining. The thing is that you potentially kill it shortly after this scene, whereas you don't actually have to.
its a walking simulator. but underwater.
with a single jump scare.
Good story, but the gameplay is lackluster. Which is weird, cause there are more types of monsters compared to Amnesia TDD, but overall some of them were more annoying than scary (the sunkin ship and the Tau ones were frustrating to deal with). Overall worth a playthrough, both Amnesia and Soma are 2 bucks each on sales. Really looking forward to Rebirth.
The WAU wasn't really rebuilding the station, since it didn't need it. At best it was just spreading via structure gel and getting into new areas in a somewhat destructive manner. At worst it was actively sabotaging living areas and shutting them down, trying to kill the last of the humans in order to finish its goal.
In the meantime it was shitting out mockingbirds although I'm not sure why. Initially, I think when the comet hit, the WAU was drawing up plans for its own ARK type thing. Put all the brainscans in there and kill everyone. But then Catherine found the idea and copied it. I guess the WAU gave up on that idea? Or did they delete it from the WAU's memory or something? Because then it started making mockingbirds instead.
Show me where he was "clearly" referencing reading Brave New World as opposed to reading the Vedas
It was alright untill the middle section of the game when you get used to everything the game can throw at you so the horror wears down.
Also Catherine is a fuckig bitch.
Behold! With merely a phrase, I shall transmutate this SOMA thread for the worse!
