Was I the only one who really enjoyed the Wii-U? I dont think it got a fair shake and was really ahead of its time.
Why did it fail
>stupid name
>horrible specs
>gamepad was pretty much worthless and low quality
>no good games until august 2013
>no real 3d mario game
>smash sucked
>no third party support of any kind
There you go
>Was I the only one who really enjoyed the Wii-U?
No.
>I dont think it got a fair shake and was really ahead of its time
Of course not, people are dumb.
If you want 100% proof of this, just ask them what their favourite switch games are. 99% of the time it's going to be mostly wii u ports/rehashes.
no games
literally the reason because people did not wanted to make games for it
I really liked the console if i ignored the static shocks i would get when touching the screen
Wii U :
>best yoshi game
>best minigame collection (NintendoLand)
>best NSMB game
>best splatoon
>started mario maker
>DKCTF, Pikmin 3, MK8, ...
Best console since the SNES
I also really enjoy it and have over 80 games for it. It's pretty obvious that it failed for a multitude of reasons:
>only 3rd party support were years old ports at launch
>required gamepad to use console
>awful name which confused not only normies but casual and hardcore gamers
>specs that compete with hardware from an entire generation back
>poor online and account systems
There are other problems that don't have a lot of coverage like the virtual console being much dimmer than it's supposed to be. It was mostly due to the name and power. If they had more power, we'd see more of the current gen games on it which leads to more games being specifically targeted for it overall.
see? That's exactly what I'm talking about. People just make excuses to hate the "uncool" thing.
At least it had free online. I'll give it that. Otherwise it's just a beta Switch.
I think not having any big titles at launch and within the first years killed it.
Look at the Switch, launched with BotW and got a proper 3D Mario first year.
WiiU launch was fucking pathetic
The gamepad sucked so fucking hard. And games actually did make use of it without any shame. Just port everything to Switch and forget about it.
It was too expensive. It was a current gen console, with the specs of a last gen console like the Wii, but it was $100 more expensive than the Wii launch price was when it launched. Why would anyone spend $350 on a WiiU when for just $50 more you could get the much more powerful PS4?
I am single male. I didn't need a gamepad so "others could use the TV". I live alone. I can watch whatever I want whenever I want.
>>best yoshi game
untrue
>>best minigame collection (NintendoLand)
who cares
>>best splatoon
untrue
>DKCTF, Pikmin 3, MK8, ...
good games, i will give you that
I couldn't even take it with me to play while shitting as it lost connection.
Truly the most useless shit ever.
That was my first huge disappointment with that piece of shit. I was lucky to find someone dumb enough to buy it from me.
it actually has a decently long connection length unobstructed
but the real world is not unobstructed
>best yoshi game
>untrue
Which one is the best then, faggot?
>who cares
people who want to have fun?
>best splatoon
>untrue
you just lost your credibility, pal.
more childish bs from pathological wii u haters. No arguments, just nitpicking.
I miss Miiverse bros
No other console ever had a dedicated shitposting channel
>backwards compatibility, both in games and controller hardware
>free online
>integrated browser + wireless tablet made it a great porno machine when my laptop was busted
The Wii U is a better straight-up console than the Switch, the Switch just gets a better rep because it's being graded on a handheld curve.
>the Switch just gets a better rep because it's being graded on a handheld curve
Nah, it gets a better rep because it had normie gamer appeal.
The Wii U saved my fucking ass when my PC died, I used it to shop for parts. Also great for porn, manga and anime.
>and controller hardware
it really can't be overstated how big this was, nobody ever did that shit because overpaid shitty gimmick controllers are nintendo's down-low kikiest practices, but actually letting you dust off your friends' unused wii peripherals was incredibly consumer-friendly, figures you faggots completely ignored it and rewarded the switch for jewing you out of drifting tamogochi-sized joycons instead
Marketing, all the Wii U ads showed small children playing it, making it seem like a cheap toy.
>more childish bs
It's okay special snowflake, the WiiU was awesome and everyone else is wrong but you.
Retard.
the wii u sucks
the switch sucks
nintendo sucks
Is it viable to get one for jailbreaking and put most of the library in it?
Yep there's nothing like "gamecube graphics" that made me feel more like it was "ahead of its time". Or nothing like a cheap-feeling anti-ergonomic gamepad with 480p resolution and poor contrasts.
There were a couple of good games tho. Much less in numbers than what it'd take to make it a worthwhile purchase.
being able to watch porn makes some console better than other? holy shit this is the dumbest shit i've ever seen
>480p resolution and poor contrasts
Ah yes the screen that looked like someone smeared vaseline on it!
I had one and trust me, Cemu is a way better experience than playing the actual console. The upscale of many games breathes life in them, while the use of the second screen is in 95% of cases, useless and simply cumbersome. In most cases it doesn't add to the games, it detracts. The gamepad doesn't feel good to use and the pro controller is heavily overrated, I never use it because the X1 controller is more comfortable and adapted to more game genres.
The only game that is better on the original console is Pikmin 3, but even then it's a trade-off because the upscale is really worth it in many games and you would still have a great experience in emulation. W101 plays perfectly fine on a regular controller too.
It's ok, your mind didn't adapt out of high school. We know owning a gaystation is all you have going for you!
The name was a big part of the problem. Most people thought it was just an overpriced accessory for the Wii. It's sort of similar to the poor early sales performance with the 3DS (also driven by people wary of the stereoscopic 3D after they learned a little more, and of course the launch title lineup in both cases). I suspect it was easier for the latter to recover because the 3 being at the start versus the U being at the end made people accept it as a separate product more readily, but recognizing this about human nature makes me hurt inside so I try not to think about it too hard.
I appreciated what the second screen brought to games that made good use of it though it was largely underutilized; the map in Splatoon being a glance away was especially good for awareness and the quick movement. I'm still mad that we missed getting a Pokemon Snap sequel with the gamepad as a camera, but I think I saw that there were references to second screen stuff in some of the Nintendo leaks so perhaps the rumored hardware revision will be doing something in that direction.
Wii U still the best console of this generation.
