I don't like to be one of those people who sees an action game and immediately thinks "Oh man it's just like DMC!" but it's actually uncanny how similar protagonist's attacks are to Nero's. He has High Roller and Shuffle and the aerial combo is absolutely identical to Nero's. He even does a fucking jump cancel. I guess Suzuki is designing what he knows.
I'm always hesitant on action combat in RPGs because it tends to be shitty (XV's was awful, VII Remake's was fantastic but it was more of a turn-based RPG pretending to be an action game) but the brief snippets in the trailer were pretty great.

The trailer is all in-game rendering, which is impressive for a first trailer. The game won't come out in 6 billions years like XV with it's CGI trailers
It's looking promising but I fear that just like with Nier automata they'll simplify the combat and add stats so jrpg babies can coast through just by keeping their shit upgraded so they can brute force the game with big numbers and heal item spam.

FFXII had the best battle system of the series alongside Tactics. Every FF related to Ivalice or the Ivalice staff have much better combat in general. No fight in the series ever came close to me fighting Gilgamesh, Fafnir, Zodiark or Omega Mk.XII.

The gameplay is looking real good. The MC has a dedicated dodge button. He can charge magic WHILE doing sword combos, has enemy step, can use the power of summons to extend his attacks.
So it has the boring plot of a tactics game but not the cute 2D artwork. Ok then.

Post a pic from 16 that looks nice and colorful. So far this has showed generic castle, generic arid land, generic forest, generic swamp, generic field. No unique architecture, no defining image of the world, no unique landscape, nothing that couldn't be placed into another game and blend right in. Even the grass areas look bland and boring.

I like both turn-based games and action games. I actually wish we had more turn-based JRPGs because they're a dying breed and because most JRPGs with action combat suck (see: XV). With that said, what little we saw of XVI's combat actually looks really good.
I don't think anyone was really asking for FF to be turned into an action game, blame Squeenix for wanting to modernize their shit, but as long as they're doing it and as long as they're actually making better combat than XV's boring garbage, I'm excited for it.
