Game's hardly scary anymore. Used to play this shit CivCraft. Basically factions without the factions. Was some interesting shit, a lot of channers as well. Map was big, fastest way to get across it was hours long travels via rail deep underground. Was spooky sometimes. Railways were made by players so in some you might find small abandon encampments, but there was also nice little shops and shit as well. Surface was much more interesting. Go thirty minutes not seeing anything man-made just to come across an abandon farming town.

It's possible in a limited way without it but I don't know if anyone's ever done it. Like, encrypt the spooky content and continuously try to decrypt it with a key. The key is a buffer of recent player movements. If you give a player a riddle whose solution is to do something like walk between several points, the walking between points forms the correct decryption key and there's no clue at all left to someone reversing the code, it's just something to do with player inputs.
