Nakoruru is not even the mascot character of the series she originates from. Haohmaru is the face of SamSho. She's not the mascot of SNK by any stretch. At best she MIGHT be the favorite waifu character and even then Mai is arguably more popular.

KoF was basically the "normie" fighting games of the 90's, SNK had a shit ton of other games prior and during those years, Fatal Fury was still going strong, KoF became graphically stagnant after 96 while other games had a variety of art styles.
