What effect will Xbox Game Pass have on the industry, if at all? As far as I'm concerned, it's another form of DRM, and it's a little disconcerting how people are just eating it up.

If you don't want to spend $10 to play hundreds of games, you don't have to. But I like doing that.

Likely the same effect xbox live gold had on the industry, another "great" idea to drain even more money from consumers that Sony and Nintendo will eventually adopt since xbots ate it up

That's all I see it as. Sure it has some value but I've had rough experiences with the reliability and library of services like netflix and hulu that I just don't like subscription models. The only service to really do it right is music streaming stuff but even that has issues with certain artists just not being on it.
I would be excited about it if there wasn't such a push to remove ownership rights from consumers in basically all forms of media.

>What effect will Xbox Game Pass have on the industry

if games start becoming gamepass only then thats going to be a problem.
if things stay the same then nothing will change. you will just have access to a rental service if you dont care to own the games you play.
personally, i play more singleplayer games than multi and usually when im done with those games, i rarely play them again so i benefit on something like the game pass.

+1

Its basically free though, only idiots who dont want to give up 5 minutes of their time each day are paying for it.

>basically free
How?

I think he's talking about microsoft rewards.

It weirdly took Zig Forums 24 hours to start supporting Netflix gaming. Apparently it'a based now, i won't buy into it, even if it does mean i pay a premium to own a game i don't care on principle and will continue to buy my games.

Yeah, MS Rewards basically pays for it with a little left over each month for the PC Pass

Episodic games can come back again.
Smaller but not indie aka AA games care viable again.
Way more people will find new genres for them because they try games they would hae never palyed.
poorfags are not left in the dus and seething about the newest games they can't afford, leading to a better climate to discuss in without the lack of money screaming from the shitposters.

>first year
$15
>second year
$20
>third year
your favorite games start disappearing
>fourth year
can't unsubscribe because you lose access to everything

lose access to what, games I already played to completion?
hoarders are cringe

>actually using Bing and letting big brother Microsoft collect your data

Some of us play games that are actually worth returning to

It's interesting.
I don't know how you're going to get consumers to pay $70 for games when if you're someone tied into the Xbox ecosystem, you'd just use Gamepass to at least try it out.

>using a snake oil salesman as your reaction pic

Enjoy playing the same 10 games for the next 5 years, I guess.

Then fucking buy the games you liked and want to play again. How do you retards not grasp what this shit is?

they already remove games after like 2-3 months.

>caring more about a reaction image than your own privacy

>say the gamer word
>get banned and kicked off xbox gamepass with a year left of your time
>can't play any games
This is bad

Who cares if you don't really own the games. For $10 you get to play the whole game and most games you won't play again or very rarely.

Physical games take up space and one day we'll all die. Just enjoy the experience and don't worry about amassing mounds of plastic.

shut up about collecting data nobody will care about my data when i'm gone

>pay $500 for a console
>also pay $200 every year for the pass
>also pay $70 whenever your game goes off phil's list

>$70

Well you see Zig Forumstard, MS already has my data from using wiindows. Why would I give it to google as well when I can just keep my data in the MS ecosystem by using bing?

welcome to next gen

short term: great
long term: absolut apocalyspe
The problem is people are focusing too much on the short term to see the long term coming.

After 6 months on the service and with Game Pass's automatic 20% discount you're looking at more like $30. And that's already if you decided you haven't had enough yet.

None. It's not a success, ignore the shill spam for it pretending otherwise, it doesn't make MS any money and the selection is so laughable that it will never substitute just buying games you want.

Games becoming gamepass only is inevitable, the writing is on the wall.

Ultimately open platforms. MS just needs to find a way to get Sony to drop their ancient exclusivity deals and to opt into a similar subscription service. There's no money to be made on Hardware alone and factoring in potential reach, marketing your first party stuff to literally anyone via a pass is objectively the better deal. Just compare Dark Souls 3 with its 10mil+ sales to let's say Bloodborne that only managed to sell about 3mil by comparison. Gamepass is honestly the future wether you like it or not.

WAAA WAAAAA WAAAAA WAAAAA WAAAA
MOMMY WHY DOES THE MEAN MAN ASK MONEY FOR GAMES?????? ITS UNFAIR I WANT IT FREE, LET ME PIRATE!!!11111

This is your argument. Grow up, make something of your life, get a job and pay for stuff like everyone else. Stop being a leech.
