Fun to play, fun to watch, hard to master, really interesting system mechanics...

>fun to play, fun to watch, hard to master, really interesting system mechanics, and neutral heavy but less competitive play than sfv
Why guilty gear isnt played as heavily as sfv?

Doesn't have the SF brand name recognition and complexity of system mechanics is hard for newcomers to overcome without getting frustrated over getting bodied by those who already grinded out the experience

isnt fighting games about getting bodied by people with more experience?

Imagine caring about shit series like Street Fighter or Guilty Gear when Tekken exists. Guilty Gear is casual masher for autistic weebs who do nothing but jerk off to hentai all day, there's nothing good about this series and there never will be. Street Fighter is the most overrated piece of shit ever for smoothbrains who love to pretend they're OGs. If you're a real fighting game connoisseur and you cared about skill and difficulty you'd be playing Tekken 7 right now which is objectively the best fighting game ever created and will go down in history as such 10 years from now.

Shit's fucking hard.
There's optimization, then there's having 4-6 different bnbs per character.
I'll take different combos for big/medium/small, but GG is just fucking ridiculous.

guilty gear is peak coomer but your opinion is shit

you can play tekken because its completely different from the other game but tekken isnt objectively better

Guilty Gear is overrated trash for weebs and trannies that people love to circlejerk because it's obscure so automatically "cool" to orbit. Guilty Gear is fucking ass, bottom of the barrel casual masher for autists. There's nothing good about this belt simulator blockstring single player. Tekken is the best fighting game series ever created and what you would be playing if you really liked fighting games, don't use the "t-there's different and both good in their own right!" excuse with me: Guilty Gear is garbage, Tekken is godlike. Tekken 7 in particular is the magnum opus of the fighting game genre and nothing compares to it, it's not even close, 10 years from now it'll still be played and remembered as a masterpiece. Xrd is just a shitty game that's already forgotten.

oh shit thats a copypasta right there

are you okay user?

Reminder Tekken fags and smash fags are cut from the same cloth.

Not copypasta. Dilate tranny. Stop shilling your shitty ass dead games no one cares about. If you really cared about fighting games you'd be playing Tekken 7, there are literally no reasons not to.

i want to play tekken 7, but I also want to play guilty gear lol

smash ultimate fags or melee fags?

Melee fags for the most part. As someone who "mained" Smash 4 during its lifetime, the community is too autistic to try other things.
Melee fags have a stick up their ass that since their game is the greatest ever, they can totally go play other fighting games with no trouble.
And they always go to Tekken.

Because the weeabos who wank arcsys shit don't actually play the games at all.

Holt SHIT you are so bad at guilty gear it's hilarious. What's the matter tekkenshill, can't do quarter circles? Can't into instant air dash? Don't like blocking fireballs and dying to chip damage when you could've just ducked or jumped over it instead? Do you hate epic cool supers, do you hate going into the practice room and training so you can pull off epic 20-input combos against another human? You have horribly slow reflexes so you can't anti-air, you can't block overheads, you can't deal with corner pressure, you rage when you get low crushed by a move that inherently takes your opponents feet off the ground and you get counter hit? You can't do roman cancel combos, you can't use yellow roman cancels or red roman cancels either defensively or offensively depending on the situation? I know Tekken has none of that stuff but you still think it's better because you're just MEGA bad and probably get your ass kicked hard than maxidood playing meme tits. Guilty Gear is the farthest thing from casual OR button masher go play your disgusting 3dpd and we patricians will enjoy our 2d masterpiece.

thats really sad
arcsys is really good at female character design lmao

This
>animeshit that isn’t normalfag tier
>harder to pick up and understand for more casual play
>Relatively obscure for normalfags until the last few years

I hope strive gets it right though, just making the game easier isnt going to make it bump unfortunately

2 words: Brand Recognition

SF and Tekken dominate the FG space with NRS also trailing due to normie appeal. If you aren't any of those 3 big franchise, you will certainly have 0 retention

First of all, barely anyone outside fgc knows it, you can partially thank arcsys "marketing" for this. Only memes with Bridget were somewhat popular but that was like 10 years ago.

Street Fighter is a big name. Guilty gear has never had a fraction of popularity. I think it's partially due to the older games having a heavy metal aesthetic, which might have alienated a segment of the potential consumer base.
The game doesn't make an effort to keep an engaged online player community. Everyone outside japan plays in rooms of 8 people. I hear the netplay isn't the best also.
Also this is a little bit of a personal pet peeve but the menus look horrible in Xrd 2. From the first glance you understand that this game will not hold your hand at all. The tutorials are a step in the right direction but not nearly enough.

NRS games are so boring to watch tho

street fighter is slow paced, but MK is just straight out boring, kinda sad that they take all the space in the fgc

This is exactly why I can't get into fighting games. If you aren't better than your opponent, you will never win.

>Tekken
I dont like mashing buttons randomly.

>if you aren't better than your opponent, you will never win.

well user a lot of games are like that, and thats the fun in it, training and seeing how you get closer with the community and gets better.
If you really wanna get into fighting games right now play dbfz, its the easiest of the recent games and pretty fun, also you can learn a lot because knowledge in fighting games stay in your brain

People buy NRS because of the novelty and the actually decent singleplayer content. The popularity is very high but the retention is very low. Basically its a game you play in parties, fuck around with the fatalities and call it a day.

>If you aren't better than your opponent, you will never win.
You should play Marvel 3 user.
It's simultaneously the most and least momentum based game I've ever played.
It's so easy to steal games.

i think jiyuna put it pretty well
>it isn't necessarily easier to get good at sf than anime, but it's much easier to think you're good

It's not Guilty Gear that's unpopular but anime fighters in general, in fact Guilty Gear is pretty popular in its own ecosystem, it's a niche subgenre that never took off because they were never revolutionary enough to take advantage during the cracks in the market like for example 3D fighters did during the polygon-based game craze of the late 90s. Darkstalkers starting this anime trend during this timeframe where people were tired of seeing sprite-based fighters regardless of how good the games were didn't help propel the genre either. At the end of the day brand recognition is a big thing, SFIV was arguably harder to get into than Guilty Gear but it was still huge. Guilty Gear's mechanics don't help its case either, I'm a Street Fighter player that recently got into it because I love the characters and while I got the hang of the system, getting really into it would a huge time sink because of mechanics like the character-specific weights and wakeup timings which are cool on paper but in practice make it very scary to approach as a main game. Guilty Gear definitely cut its own following thanks to its fast-paced gameplay and aesthetic but to the average consumer there are no reason to play it over Street Fighter when the latter provides a very similar experience without the bloat elements. I love Guilty Gear and I wish it'd get more recognition, I don't agree with everything Strive is doing but there are definitely some smart choices there. I think the easiest way to promote the series would be to do a crossover, since Guilty Gear designs are unique and would appeal easily to people, Sammy vs Capcom almost happened at some point but then it got cancelled which is a shame.

Shit character designs

this is true but ts not the whole story. if you have brand recognition you WILL get a large autistic community willing to explore your game's depth - just look at dbfz, or even fucking smash games. the solution is not to simplify the game, but to somehow draw a large playerbase so ranked play doesn't feel unfair to people - and i don't have any ideas except f2p. only riot can save the genre at this point
