Galaxy is just ok

Seriously why do people who didn't even grow up with this game have such a boner for it?
After oddysey came out I saw a vidya essayist put out a long ass vid about why galaxy is better. But it just isn't better than any other 3d mario
>sluggish & nerfed moveset
>tiny planetoid levels that are linear and boring
>vomit inducing camera for shitty gravity gimmicks
>fucking sa2 and ratchet did gravity levels better
>shit camera they didn't even fix in 3d collection
>need to constantly use pointer in a fucking Mario game
>need to constantly use motion controls to attack (fixed in 3d collection at least)

I like it :)

im going to watch Vinny play it :)

That's cool, I just hate when people put it on a pedastal as what all 3d mario should strive for

Galaxy 1 was total bland assnuggets.
So i never played 2.

it's better than odyssey but worse than 3d world but 64 is better than all. haven't played sunshine so i don't care about that one

I started emulating it and its super comfy and the music is so emotionally captivating but jumps feel so off in this game maybe its because i'm emulating but the weird lack of air control sucks
youtu.be/5sN2DpfOhTo

The music is great, but even on wii and switch air control sucks

>>sluggish & nerfed moveset
Nerfed to accommodate the level design
>>tiny planetoid levels that are linear and boring
Every star puts you in a different scenario/path. Freeze flame Galaxy is a good example of what Galaxy does best.
>>vomit inducing camera for shitty gravity gimmicks
Camera is pretty lax most of the time. Camera always follows Mario and doesn’t drastically shift when changing gravity.
>>fucking sa2 and ratchet did gravity levels better
Have you even played Mad Space in a while?
>>shit camera they didn't even fix in 3d collection
Again, camera is much better than you give it credit. Camera is always above Mario when on a planetoid.
>>need to constantly use pointer in a fucking Mario game
Just for star bits. They work well with the Wiimote controller.
>>need to constantly use motion controls to attack
Pretty tame for a Wii game. Just a whack. You’re not controlling your character with the wiimote like in Secret Rings

i like 2 way more

Go away

oh hey whats going on in this thread owo

yea it feels harder to stomp on heads because of the camera and weird air controls

I think 3D World and 64 should be the building blocks for 3D Mario, give the player proper Mario power ups and make the stages hard for experienced players.

it's the best 3d mario, incredible creativity, level design, artstyle and ost

it's too easy and verbose/condescending due to being from the wii era but outside of that it's incredible

I feel a similar way about sunshine. Grew up loving the game but going back to it, the camera and platforming feels like its molded over. There are so many times I've clipped through platforms or fell off of places due to shitty camera.

I agree with this, I think aside from the hard challenges oddysey did this well. The post game stuff was hard tho
Its creative, and great ost I'll give you that. The art style while nice looks a bit plasticy, never liked how stars look in it. But the level designs outside of their spectacle just feel like standard 2d platforming affair with a weird camera

See I didn't have fun tho. And I'm not having fun replaying it.

Its ok user, not everyone has to like the same things, and I respect your opinion

>>fucking sa2 did gravity levels better
Crazy Gadget and Mad Space were the worst levels in the entire game, and they had much more severe camera issues

I played it at launch, loved it, then played it again last year, still loved it.
It's the true sequel to SM64. I tried playing Sunshine after my second playthrough of Galaxy and I gave up after the first two levels because Mario handled so horribly and anything requiring the dumb backpack was just infuriating.
It's no wonder why those levels where he loses his backpack are the best and how they made a whole galaxy paying homage to them later on.

>I saw a vidya essayist
I LOVE Zig Forums. THIS IS MY FAVOURITE WEBSITE AND SOCIAL NETWORK

I dont understand how people say Mario handles horribly in Sunshine. He handles perfectly fine, and ever since Sunshine I miss his jumping dive move.

>>sluggish & nerfed moveset
If you had a more verbose moveset the level design would go out of scope for a mario game. the orbit on planets makes the complexity of the level design higher, if you add a movement like 64 or sunshine it would be pretty hard to do tight linear level design like they did in the game.
>>tiny planetoid levels that are linear and boring
>64 and sunshine levels are more boring, they are only fun for the movement. That said galaxy can have boring level design in the 2 first worlds or so, but that is because people need to get a feel to the gravity mechanic. Galaxy 2 has one of the best designed levels in any mario game if you are looking for better level design
>>vomit inducing camera for shitty gravity gimmicks
you don't need the camera most of the time and in the open levels they let you move it all the way.
also
>gravity
>gimmick
>>fucking sa2 and ratchet did gravity levels better
Haven't played rachet yet but the gravity levels in SA2 were pretty buggy and way more simple than what galaxy did
>>camera they didn't even fix in 3d collection
This I completely agree.
>>need to constantly use pointer in a fucking Mario game
>constantly
>need
You only need to use it to use the pull stars, most of the time it's optional
>>need to constantly use motion controls to attack (fixed in 3d collection at least)
Yeah that is pretty shit

fun space game

OP you idiot!

You forgot:

>Mario's dive removed (best move)
>Getting the pointer off the screen in 3D All Stars is annoying - you have to hold R and then swing it off the screen, and if you move slightly into the wrong position it might come back
>Number of stars per level is drastically reduced, and you don't have the freedom to pick the order (almost worse than just being outright linear)
>Mario looks way fatter for some reason
>Not only is the camera bad, it's a direct downgrade from Mario Sunshine which perfected the camera controls

Still a 7/10 game, but has nothing on 64's 9.5/10 and Sunshine's 9.2/10.

>So i never played 2.
Big mistake. It's the best 3D Mario.

That's a weird way to type Odyssey, the best, comfiest, largest, most inventive Mario game of our time.

This

god damn i am living a miserable adult life right now

I love SA2. It did NOT do anti gravity better than galaxy. Mad space SUCKED. Crazy Gadget SUCKED. Even the worst levels in mario galaxy are more playable
