I remember system fanboys shiling it as another epic exclusive and not licensed shovelware

>Everyone shat on it from day one
>Game actually turned out to be good

Because it's actually good? Mario XCOM works surprisingly well, and the lol XD randum nature of the Rabbids aren't as annoying here.

>it's actually a fucking good game
I hate how that happened.

Millions of Toads were sacrificed in the making of this crossover.

Normally I get a chuckle out of people having to eat their words after shitting on a game before it comes out, but in this case I totally understood the hate.

Mario and the fucking Rabbids in a game that plays like XCOM and developed by Ubisoft sounds like a shit idea even on paper. If the game had turned out decent it would've been considered a miracle, but the fact that it was actually good is god damn unfathomable.

The highest rated Ubisoft game since Rayman legends

>The fucking opera rabbid that practically roasted Mario to death

I remember that he actually got pretty damn popular for a while.

I got it on sale(since it always is) and boy it was worth it.

it's nintendo exclusive. won't never ever be in epic store

THIS
It's actually fun as fuck and the Rabbids are toned down to bearable levels (I only played Rayman Rabbids so that's my only point of reference) / Now NO Rabbids would be the best option, but considering what we got? Still a solid game.

Its actually a pretty decent X-com clone, nothing spectacular but not bad.

Oh yeah it was pretty good too

>expect rabbids to be annoying and cringey like they always have been
>are pretty charming and mostly restrained
>expect incredibly neutered xcom
>provides a pretty decent challenge

im looking forward to another game by this director and studio, maybe rayman 4

>Ubisoft doesn't have sou-

It helped that this was more of a passion project and not just a soulless cashgrab. I remember the dev crying after hearing praise from Miyamoto.

Underrated. Sometimes story is shit but it’s still a solid game

The game being ok doesn't change that it would have been much better with any other crossover other than the rabbids.

>AOEs the enemy squad to death in a single turn

How was this little bastard so OP? The only character on his level is Donkey Kong, and he’s not even in the base game.

How was the Donkey Kong DLC?

More like ITT: Awful on paper, but somehow worked in practice.

The fact that it managed to be good despite the rabbids is what makes it impressive though.

game was fun
8/10

Fun. DK absolutely wrecks shit.

YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A PARODY
I'LL FIND YOU A GOOD ROLE - IN A TRAGEDY

It's literally the opposite. The game being fun despite the rabbids and a very sterile Mario cast makes everyone overlook that the game is just a lot of wasted potential. It could have been something unique like Pikmin for Nintendo but instead we got a very bland crossover with fun gameplay.

Gonna have to agree to disagree here. An XCOM clone with IPs I know would be fine together would have made it an overall forgettable experience. Now I'm forced to acknowledge that Ubisoft forced their minions into another game, but it didn't fucking suck dick and kill an IP this time like it did for Rayman.

Well it also didn't create an IP which is my point. The game has no soul or charm and the standout feature is nothing a game desires to be known for.

Imagine Pikmin was not a fresh IP with its unique world, music, characters etc but borrowed instead of Mario and the Rabbids for a crossover game. The gameplay would stay the same. It would be a decent game but entirely soulless. If this game had soul then I would agree with you that its unique combination of undesirable ingredients creating something worthwhile would be amazing in its own right. But it's just soulless shit where both the Mario characters and Rabbids are easily replaceable with whatever, the gameplay and the characters are utterly detached from each other so there really isn't anything amazing about the fact that it's fun.

based post. It’s like how Splatoon was originally going to be a Mario shooter. Had they not made it it’s “own thing” I’m sure it would be promptly forgotten as just another spin off

Yeah it was a thing and it was fucking awesome

it's pretty fun, you should play it

fantastic fucking game

someone talk about the multiplayer

That was a preaty fun moment
