Imagine advertising the original Nier as a PREQUEL to Automata
It has the most fluid animations of literally any game I think, a decently deep combat system, interesting art style, basically god tier music design, sometimes the camera changes during combat scenarios which is very novel and fun, and the story is pretty neat.
The downside is that it wasn't very focused since it was larping as a JRPG. so if you run around doing side quests it will take away from the core experience. Also there's no tutorial for the combat so if you aren't big brained you're going to miss most of what can be done.
This
it's beautiful, fun and the sound track is one of the goat
what's that cute outfit on 2b
>whats good about it?
teenager with a massive ass
Did they ever bother to fix the PC version?
Is that hard to understand? Automata did well, Nier didn't. Most people know Automata, and Nier takes place before.
1+1=2
The FAR mod fixes it.
2B is a 3 year old.
Good visuals and art design
Fun combat with some depth to enjoy, even if the game doesn't demand you master it.
Some decent exploration and side-quest content
Good lore and story
Character-based plot that genuinely hits if you let it.
Plays with the concept of interactivity and playing as robots in a fun and interesting way, they feel complimentary.
Lots of paradigm and perspective shifts that keep you on your toes.
Following the above point, the game always feels unpredictable and nothing is off the table.
Hype moments that feel earned.
No cucked design philosophy, the creators like what they like and it's in the game because they like it. Yoko Taro thinks can have THICC android ass and a genuine story you take seriously, and he's right.
It's pretty daring and doesn't feel restrained by what it wants to portray or what themes it wants to discuss, i.e. at the risk of using buzzwords, it has SOUL.
It's just a genuinely good videogame in most respects. Main complaints are the PC port is trash and whilst it's mostly well balanced, the gameplay is there to be enjoyable as a compliment to the story, it's not the main focus so balance can feel untested sometimes.
Was that the one made by a turboautist that doesn't work on pirated copies, and he blacklisted specific people form the forums that he didn't like so they couldn't use it either?
>r/iamVERYsmart!!
The power of 2B's ass
It's honestly an all around gaming masterpiece.
It feels like some long-lost PS2 classic from the golden era. Atmospheric, beautiful, thought provoking, and also fun to play. The ending usually elevates this from a mere "neat game" to an absolute art-piece.
>imagine pirating one of the greatest games of the last 10 years and thus missing on the online elements.
>whats good about it?
The aesthetic, atmosphere, half the soundtrack, and 2B's ass.
Story and characters are mediocre. Gameplay is serviceable; the combat not deep but it's flashy enough to be satisfying as long as the game doesn't lean on it. Game has a non-negligible amount of padding.
The game is to Zig Forums (and /r/games) now what Bioshock Infinite was to games journalists in 2013; good art direction, some "deep" themes and philosophical/science-y topics broached but not fully explored, tricking people into thinking the game is a lot more profound, unique and genre-defining than it actually is.
NieR Automata isn't a terrible game (unlike Bioshock Infinite) but it's a 7/10 at best and nowhere near "greatest games of all time" material.
>if you run around doing side quests it will take away from the core experience
This is an outright LIE.
Most of the game's emotional meat and bone are found exactly in the side quests.
OST is pure sex.
I actually did buy it but refunded it when I couldn't even put it in fullscreen. Anyway that wasn't really the point. Is it the same mod or did someone who isn't a sperg manage to make one?
Well I didn't find the game very emotional at all.
>I couldn't even put it in fullscreen
sounds like (You) fucked up something, because there sure as hell is a full-screen option.
>is it the same mod
no idea, never even heard of such things. Nor should it matter.
I did.
Legit teared up at the ending.
The fullscreen bug would render the game at 900p(just like the PS4) if you were using an HDMI cord or something like that, it only affected some people. If you played in windowed mode there were no resolution limits. The FAR mod fixed that in a few days iirc.
>Also there's no tutorial for the combat
I don't consider this a fault at all. You can get through the game fine just by mashing light attack, but you could do so much more once you master weapon switch, attack cancelling and chaining.
IMO this is the best game design, simpletons gets to finish the game (the story experience, which incidently is also great) and the more hardcore players have a great time figuring combat out on their own.
It's the main reason people say the combat is shallow though. There's an insane amount of combo depth but it's not even 1/10th as accessible as DMC for example.
I honestly don't get why DMC fags home-in and then complain about Nier. They're two totally different types of games.
They're tired of getting BTFO by MGRchads so they started going after Automato.
Nier's combat is super high IQ and subtle, making it incredibly beautiful and gratifying when properly executed. It's not as mashy and braindead as DMC so those fans complain.

There are lots of crazy combo videos out there better than what Donguri put out for example. Donguri was playing it like DMC making it kind of boring with the punchlines. The combat system is built where you can do infinite chains with lots of variety. The main issue I'd say is that you only have 2 weapon configs you can switch through. Imagine if there was a button to toggle light/heavy weapons or more weapon slots.
many of the games that are now considered classics were rated 7/10 when released. Despite it's flaws, it will pass the test of time just like the top 10 GOAT.
>Nier's combat is super high IQ and subtle, making it incredibly beautiful and gratifying when properly executed. It's not as mashy and braindead as DMC so those fans complain.
The fuck are you talking about dude?
Automata's combat system is fun and has a hidden (but unneeded) skill ceiling, but it doesn't come close to demanding the mastery that DMC needs.
>meme game sold a lot
yeah, too bad the game is prententious tedious shit
>haven't played the game but whats good about it?
Play it, unless you are depressed in which case it's might not be a good idea, still play it.
alright so the secret to shipping vidya is fat android ass

>I've haven't played the game but whats good about it
not much to be fucking honest. The story is engaging but the combat is completely fucking wasted on dogshit enemy types. Yoko Taro loves to do this nod and wink to the player by making you do dogshit quests made to literally waste your time and say "haha doesn't that SUCK?" The 9s section sucks entirely. playing as A2 was almost brilliant but again the enemy variety is so fucking bad you just bull through to see the story. The finale is fucking huge but once the honeymoon phase for that is over you see the cracks
worth a play in all honesty but don't fall into the cult worship
Its kino. Simply kino
Something you didn't understand. I don't blame you, like I said it's high IQ. Look how many people dropped the game when they had to play as 9S.
youtu.be
Anything with sexy waifus guarantees you at least a small but dedicated following of waifufags and coomers. If you're lucky this group will be large enough to carry your entire game, like Overwatch for example.
>whats good about it?
fuck i just spamed the attack button throughout the game
Cute girls does sell games. I don't understand why devs don't abuse this more often. Even just having a side character that looks good does wonders for your sales.
But a complex battle system that you never need during the game's progression or sidequests, and for which you need specific setups in the game's debug mode, is inherently worthless.
>inb4 "hur dur low IQ"
>topics broached but not fully explored, tricking people into thinking the game is a lot more profound, unique and genre-defining than it actually is
What you seem to miss is that "fully exploring" the themes it brings up would actually make it less "profound," because if it were to go "Here's a question, and the answer is THIS" (basically what Infinite tried to do with its setting and themes) there wouldn't be any reason for the players to do any thinking for themselves about the questions the game raises about meaning and purpose, which are fundamentally open-ended.
Japs do it all the time, but you know westerners love their social media brownie points.
>But a complex battle system that you never need
So DMC and any game with combos? Just button mash haha! I'm not going to have a discussion with a disingenuous retard.
shipments is not sales
I don't agree, they don't do it nearly enough. It should be stale but instead it's still fairly novel.
also game is kino
Bro you're being a paranoid asshole right now.
I love DMC and I love Nier, played the whole series from Drakengard 1, these games are some of my favorites and I played through Automata 3 times.
But you can't get through Demon Hunter mode in DMC5 by just mashing Light attack and spamming your basic gun. You can get through Normal on Nier Automata that way no problem. That is an objective fact.
Get a life.
