if gamepass is 15 bucks a month, it's 180 bucks a year, this is the price of three triple A games. How do you fund everything with the price of three games? Do you not expect that the service will be for older games as well as lower quality games? How else could it work and make money???

I have no idea. I let Microsoft worry about that. They've been pretty good at making money. I just enjoy the games.
didnt read lmao too busy playing gamepass
cause the average gaymer doesn't buy 3 games a year, they buy less, also if they buy physical that's 30% or so that MS is losing.
even then the service is obviously not profitable, just like netflix isn't, in a couple of years it will go up in price gradually, MS is taking a gamble right now.
Just saying that the price of gamepass doesn't seem to cover the revenue for big games
only sony has to worry about balancing budgets because they are a mismanaged poorfag company that was almost bankrupt up until a few years ago.
xchads are not poorfags and thus do not need to worry about such things.

if netflix is 10 bucks a month, it's 120 bucks a year, this is the price of 10 movie tickets. How do you fund everything with the price of 10 movies? Do you not expect that the service will be for older movies as well as lower quality movies? How else could it work and make money???
Because 15 million subscribers leads to 2.7 billion dollars a year. Which is where they are essentially at now.
I'm 99% sure that the average console gamer does buy at least 3 games a year
Most people do not buy three games a year. They buy 1 game a year at most. Just like most people do not go to the theater once a month (10 dollar ticket vs 10 dollar Netflix) or buy 1 album a month (10 dollar album vs 10 dollar Spotify)
So if Game Pass goes mainstream status where even normies are subscribed, then the average spending per consumer will actually go UP not down
by bleeding money and having an old ass trash library as well as half assed netflix series that end before ever finishing?
you think that's a big number but is it when you factor in that it's split up to different publishers
It doesn’t. Microsoft’s plan is to monopolize the industry, phase out GamePass and force retards to pay for xCloud.
if you buy a gaming console you buy more than one game
user, they'll be selling 3 AAA games to EVERYONE subscribed for each year, and keep doing it ad infinitum. There are 15 million subscribed people now, that's 2.7 billion per year, and the number will grow, then you add the usual revenue (other games, content, consoles, yadda yadda yadda), and here's your answer.
where they are now is not profitable according to microsoft...
Thats just where they are now. If it keeps growing,, devs will get it on their for cheap as it will be 25 million people who can pay for dlc and microtransactions
There are literally tens of millions of people that don’t
I have a friend that only has Spiderman, GTA and 3 call of duties for his PlayStation
pretty fucking sure everyone who owns a console buys over 3 games a year
>source: trust me bro
Yeah but I reckon most people buy games second hand. It's quite rare that a game is good enough to warrant a day one purchase.
You could always do your own research on gamepass to find out what games it offers.
On another note, Microsoft make more money than the entire playstation brand per year from gamepass subscriptions alone.
used games are old shit
snoys buying the next fallout for 70$ will make it sustainable
>Three triple A games
>$180
A-user...
Get with the times man. Xbox is the netflix of games.
I did my research and found that microsoft said it's not very profitable right now
and netflix is cancer, takes a day to see all the worthwhile movies after which you can cancel your subscription for a year and wait until it gets one more good movie
They basically buy studios to make their shovelware and get cheap deals for indie garbage.
Just look at the library, and at a glance you know what the fuck is going on.
because ms won't need to spend hundreds of millions on ridiculous marketing campaigns. devs will also share engines etc which will further cut down dev costs.
Alright here’s a quick source from googling
vgsales.fandom.com
PS3 - 8.9 games over 7 years
PS4 - 8.7 games over 7 years
Xbox 360 - 7.5 games over 8 years
So basically 1 game a year
microsoft isn't running marketing campaigns for third parties lmao
why's gamepass leading to devs sharing engines what the fuck are you talking about
Holy based
i own an xboner since release and the only game i've bought was mgs v, the rest i leeched of a friend and basedpass.
This
>Only profitable division is the console division
vs
>Only UNprofitable division is the console division
When was the last time you saw a Vaio, bravia or xperia?
I don't believe it as I don't see how anyone would buy a gaming console and not play anything on it
I could see someone buying one and selling it within a year and that'd make your chart still look the same
I'm talking about first party games you fucking brainetl. Get your piss shit 5 and be done with it.
I'm talking about gaas
Their headphones are top-tier, so they probably make bank on that.
The average console gamer buys fifa, call of duty and play free to play games till next gen comes (they might buy one game on Christmas)
Did you keep reading and read the part where he literally said exactly why and proceeded to explain why they're doing it this way and what they expect to receive from that or just read the title?
Most console owners only buy 1-2 games
FIFA, and fotm
It's believable, honestly. Most XBox and PS5 owners don't buy a lot of games. Casual users are a lot more common than you think. They don't care about games as much as you or I. They see an ad for a game that looks cool and buy it.
>I have no data myself but let me make up a scenario where your data doesn't work :)
Bro most normies just play FIFA or COD ad nauseum on their consoles and the only game they buy is the current year's edition
Now we got people that only play Fortnite all day every day and they aren't buying shit, ever
and you expect this sort of crowd to care about this because?
I didn't even necessarily dispute the data I just poked a flaw in the conclusion of said data though I don't trust the data that's true, but I'm too lazy to go through the source links
yeah but these sort of autopilot people would still run out of games to play
They are banking on getting a return from the number of subscribers, which will probably increase a lot. Its at 15 million now. Probably going to get much higher once the consoles release
yes and I read between the lines too
It’s “convenient” just like netflix and spotify, like it or not, the future is paying subscriptions,
Because gamepass is full of Fotm trash that you normalfaggots love. RDR2, KH3, MHW, DMC5. It's fucking great if you are either an NPC normal or someone who normally doesn't buy this trash but is somewhat interested in it.
this effectively means they need to drastically increase the amount of people who play games
I don't like because netflix is garbage and spotify is fucking artists over while labels steals all the money
It's typical subscription strategy to set a low price to get lots of subscribers then slowly increase it over a few years OR provide a premium service that has a higher margin to subsidize the cost of the poor person sub
COVID Already help on that
legit question
why 15?
isn't it 10 if you get only pc or xbox?
why get both?
Then you don't know normies, and i mean the true ones not the people you call that way just because they're not into hardcore weebshit or whatever. A lot of people buy the mandatory console just to play the 2-3 mandatory games they hear of like GTA or FIFA. Back then my first experience with a 360 was playing with my uncle's that literally only owned Saints Row 2 and PES before he eventually sold it to a friend
Although I'd say it's worth considering that official data can't account for pirated games. In fact I'm pretty sure both the 360 titles i just mentioned were only burned discs. But console piracy isn't exactly getting more popular these days
netflix keeps doing this
Average console owner buys 9 games a generation. MS is banking on the average consumer signing up and never ending the service for the entire generation, say ~6 years, so they'll get several times the amount they normally do from the average consumer, and in turn they eat the cost from the core consumer, gambling on there being way way way more of the average type than the core type. Also, gamepass has limited release periods, say 1 year, so after that the game is retired from the service (could be renewed), so for those that play games long term or didn't finish the game or want to go back or whatever, they have to go then buy it, i.e. double dipping. This is also why MMOs and FtP games still require you pay for service, despite not having to with sony's service. It's the pay as you go with some hidden gotchas, vs pay upfront and be done with it. USA is moving to the later model, because everyone lives hand to mouth now.
