So why do you hate weapon reloading in your shooters?

>So why do you hate weapon reloading in your shooters?
what?

It's another form of resource management, so I don't hate it.

OP just wanted to post that gjf

They're obnoxious and ruin the pace of the game. Stopping to reload your gun every couple of seconds is boring.

While this is true, I think it's a solid way to have a distinction between different weapon types, therefore adding more variety. Let's take a standard machinegun as an example. Besides changing the rate of fire and damage per bullet, if there was no weapon reload system, there would be nothing else to help differentiate one automatic hitscan weapon from another. Weapon reload adds another layer of depth to a player's arsenal. Without it, you'd end up with more straight upgrades which is a bad design choice.

Most games half-ass it with the sole aim of preventing spam. If they actually commit to it then it can be an interesting mechanic
>counting shots and learning the clip size of each weapon
>deciding whether you want to reload now and lose the remaining bullets, or go into the next engagement fully loaded

I'm fully in support of this. One of the few times where realism would be a benefit in a shooter.

I liked how Insurgency did it where you can either do a slower reload so you keep your magazine or you can do a slightly faster reload where you ditch it to quickly load a new magazine.

This, Red Orchestra / Rising Storm did it really well

A good reload animation and sound design can really make reloading almost fun, also if you ever learn enough about guns you can play older games and watch the animations and try and see if they made the reload animation inaccurate like they did a lot in far cry 2

Why didn't he then?

Sandstorm or OG?

not him but probably all of them, including day of infamy

I was thinking of Sandstorm, I don't remember if the original had that reload system. I think it did but it's been a long time since I played it.

he did

Reloads suck in a fast-paced shooter where you carry a lot of weapons because every gun you decide to use is one that you'll have to reload sooner or later and that's just tedious. It's perfectly fine in a slower paced one where you fight less enemies at once and carry maybe 3 weapons at most.

Probably the most hilarious article on the site.

You can reload the guns between fights. See Half Life, for instance.

CS having a lot of custom models and animations was great. More games should do that.
One the few articles that avoided the purge I guess.

Half-Life isn't really that fast paced nor do you need to spend that much ammo per encounter.

the only thing that pisses me off is that some games don’t have different animations between tactical and dry reloads. i know that they’re not trying to be realistic by not having 1 in the chamber like Siege does and are trying to have consistent reload times, but couldn’t they just make the reload times the same?

Which purge? Almost all articles I remember reading there still seem to be around. Some aren't even that well made.

It's awesome in VR shooters.

The article may be there but they've decided to be an informative source and to remove humor as much as possible. Which is fucking retarded.

thanks for posting the link, i always forget the name of that site

Ouch. That sucks. Really badly. I really liked IMFDB as a source of information, but if anything, the humour is the reason I kept coming back to read articles I had already read before.
Feels like a completely tone deaf measure to take. Not like the humour was getting in the way of the facts.

>he can't reload guns with his fucking mind
lmaoing @ ur life

This, because reloading in of itself is a skill to learn in VR. Outside of VR though it's just an unwelcome lull in gameplay.
