I think that Japanese games should localize names along with the rest of the text like older anime used to do sometimes.
I'm playing 13 Sentinels right now and the story is great but fuck me if I can keep track of all of these characters. Giving them names I could actually pronounce would do wonders for that and my ability to "connect" with them. Using Yu-Gi-Oh as an example, something like the name Yugi Muto is alright as the main character but changing Katsuya Jonouchi to Joey Wheeler is objectively an improvement for an English language version.
I'm the opposite. I think we should stop switching the first and last names when the original had it last name first name.
Hunter Flores
Japanese names are the easiest fucking shit to pronounce.
Kevin Jackson
Well user the first name is always the first name and the last name is always the last name regardless of which order they're in.
Dominic Flores
>me me me me me! Get the fuck out
Gavin Perry
Notice how the subject of the thread is "Unpopular opinions"?
Oliver Robinson
Notice how that doesn't make you any less of a faggot?
Jackson Baker
I think it's fine the way it is. In fact, I think they should get rid of honorifics. They might be necessary in Japan but it's lazy localisation to leave them in with languages that don't need them.

Just be grateful you still get your westernized japanese games rather than demand more and more censorship, fucking 愚かな外国人.
Juan Perry
Notice how you're all alone in the world?
David Campbell
Fuck off.
Lincoln Clark
I'm a translator (English to French) and I agree.
Lincoln Perry
babies first japanese game the only reason you're having a hard time is because instead of actually reading the name and pronouncing it you just look at "suzumaru" and go "oh suzie ah whatever the S named girl" or something like that basically, you're a short attention spanned retard
Josiah Smith
Sad.
William Kelly
That's not an unpopular opinion at all
Elijah Brooks
>story is great but fuck me if I can keep track of all of these characters. Had that in Yakuza at some point, like who did what to whom? No idea.
But still, if the setting is literally Japan it would be retarded to have an asian looking Peter or some shit.
Liam Diaz
Why stop there, if we just call everyone Joe, you only have to remember one name period.
Isaac Murphy
When there are 16+ characters with first and last names to keep track of introduced in the first 3 hors of the game it's a lot to take in.
Zachary Myers
It's fucking hard to remember the names for sure, especially when characters have multiple names/identities
Jason Cook
These guys have normal names, can you keep track of them?
A new character every 11min? Sounds like bullshit user.
Brandon Wood
>I'm playing 13 Sentinels right now and the story is great but fuck me if I can keep track of all of these characters. How even? Only two guys share a remotely similar design. I'd say sure if you're having some issues with the whole Juro/Izumi name change gimmick early on, but you're just being lazy mang
The most american brainlet take I've read all week.
Logan Howard
>kids can remember the names of 893 different pokemon >OP has trouble with 13 characters loving every laugh
Nolan Howard
I believe that all games with giant robots should, BY LAW, allow you to actually run around in control of the giant robot instead of the "gameplay" being some weird "strategy game" as filler for a visual novel.
Bentley Green
1000% agree
Sebastian Davis
it depends on the setting, games that take explicitly in Japan or Japan inspired areas better have Japanese names. But fantasy games localizing names is fine
Ryder Morgan
Agreed desu with zero exceptions
Connor Kelly
Guys, Suiseiseki's in this thread! Think I can get her autograph?!
