1. DotA being a step towards casualization of Warcraft 3 it only makes sense that the more casual game was more popular, HoN dying fastest as it was the most hardcore

It's not possible anymore. Dota 2 already reached its peak (2017) and is now in extended support life with the player base declining till it reaches a plateau composed of only the hardcore Dota players, who have been probably playing this game since 2006. This explains why Valve doesn't do new advisement, massive updates, or new announcements for the game, they are already moving forward.

It lacks fucking surrender button. Is harder to learn and more punishing for mistakes. You fucking lose gold on death.

Dota was never popular outside of China, SEA, and Europe. LoL got popular since it was easier to get into and had an "anime" aesthetic. Not to mention S2 killed HoN which was a serious contender at the time both games launched thanks to the pay to play model.
