VNs are cheap as fuck to make. A game with good gameplay is significantly more difficult and expensive to make.
The people making VNs wouldn't suddenly be able to make full blown games if they stopped making VNs.

I'm like two hours into Utawarerumono Prelude of the Fallen and I'm bored out of my fucking mind. Does it get better? Only VNs I've played before are Danganronpa and Steins;Gate and I love SRPGs, but the writing is very dry, the characters seem boring, and the combat is basic so far.

Zig Forums's got a ton of wrong opinions, over the years i've tried many weeb games people hyped the fuck up that ended up being super shitty. the one game though Zig Forums was right about is Sengoku Rance, that game is legitimately a 10/10. anyone who likes SRPGs even a little bit will almost certainly enjoy it

Absolutely not. Even the ""best"" visual novels consist of complete fucking garbage seasonal anime stories that you have to click through. It offers nothing over any other medium, really.
