Want to play games on your Mobile? Sure, play them via GamePass/XCloud.

Microsoft gives consumers options, Sony takes away options. Sony has actively damaged the potential of gaming, especially the Bloodborne IP, which they locked behind exclusivity and excluded 60%+- of the Souls community from playing it. Bloodborne sold around 3m copies, meanwhile Dark Souls 3 is sitting around 11m copies sold. Sony also disregards backwards compatibility, while Microsoft takes it serious.

Almost all of Valve's current value is in Steam and Microsoft buying a competing store on their own platform would never be approved nor would it make any sense for them with what they're trying to do with gamepass.

They're not after a small category of 5+ year old games. Valve released their games on console, those games died.

Maybe a merger or deal, xbox gains access to steam and vice versa ( xbox becomes the official steam machine) but valve can remain very independent ( MS goal is a one shop marketplace and cloud gaming).
