Hurr durr $219 too expensive

>hurr durr $219 too expensive

SeX has dedicated hardware decompression which doubles the read speed of the SSD from 2.4GB/s to 4.8GB/s.

That same compression means that you can store 2TB worth of games on your 1TB SSD.

Find me a 2TB PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD with 5GB/s read speeds for less than $219. I'll wait.

Show me one good upcoming game which can't run on current hardware first.

Do xbots really?

>That same compression means that you can store 2TB worth of games on your 1TB SSD.

That's not how it works

>Find me a 2TB PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD with 5GB/s read speeds for less than $219. I'll wait.

Give it 8 months.

For now you can get a Gen3 SSD for that price range.

That is literally how it works.

Texture files have a much higher compression ratios than compiled binaries and scripts. Texture files also take up far more space than code files. Previously it was not possible to compress textures because there was no way to decompress them enroute to the CPU.

Now with decompression hardware we can massively compress texture files (which take up the most space), which allows us to cut game sizes roughly in half.

What do you think "dedicated hardware decompression" means, exactly?

Or just stick to PC and spend 30€ on 250gb SSD..

That would be a shitty SATA ssd with garbage read speeds and as you mentioned, only 250gb of space.

Literally apples and oranges.

The thread is about the value proposition of the SeX ssd and how it's actually a fair price.

>2020 AD
>250gb

Sampler Feedback Streaming allows the GPU to load tiny specific portions of textures that it needs in real time, as opposed to loading entire texture files. This massively increases efficiency.

Direct Storage allows the GPU to load textures directly from the SSD rather than going through the CPU first. This is like having a VRAM pool of 100+GB.

You have 1mb/s net speed or why would you need more than 250-500gb? And im asking you this from 3d modeling and production standpoint.

>That same compression means that you can store 2TB worth of games on your 1TB SSD.
lol retard

cope

and these aren't even Gen4 prices, this is Gen3 lmao

that's a nice argument u got there

Your SSD is 1TB at 2.4GB. That's about 100bux on PC. We don't need hardware decompression as we have much more powerful CPUs with more threads and can do it in software.

1) There's a dip in the average
2) The graph has notches lower than the average posted price.

At least learn how to read the data instead of waiving it blindly.

Firstly, PC does not do real time texture decompression so you've already failed.

Secondly, all you've done is move the cost from the SSD to the CPU when the initial premise is that "$219 is too expensive for an ssd".

So get fucked, retard.

>at least learn to only fixate on the lowest prices for chink trash SSDs like me

The point of the post was to show that even Gen3 prices move slowly. Further, Gen4 prices are much higher. Finally, average price is a totally reasonable metric for comparing whether the SeX ssd price is fair or not.

enjoy your ADATA Falcon 1 star ssd piece of shit that burns out in 6 months lmao

US20160300320A1 educate yourself.

>PC does not do real time texture decompression
Yeah it does, even warframe (stupidly) compresses its textures and does decompression inline. None of this shit is new, it's just new to you.
>Secondly, all you've done is move the cost from the SSD to the CPU
Your console with online will cost you around $1k. A way more powerful PC with a 20 tflop card, faster CPU, faster SSD, faster RAM, etc. costs around $1k. You're getting SCAMMED, bro.

>all this cope because he has to pay for PCIe Gen4 x4 prices for an SSD with the equivalent of PCIe Gen3 x4 speeds
kek

>on disk compression
oh boy

Children aren't even that retarded.

>The compressed textures are retrieved from system memory and transferred to local cache memory on the GPU without first being decompressed.

"hurr durr muh powerful CPU with more threads will decompress my textures for me"

actual retard, your own patent shits on your claims lmao

Maybe his momma droped him on the head as a baby.

I'm a pcfag buying the Sex and I don't even get why you people want the expansion card. My PC has 1TB of SSD only for years now and I game just fine. Do you guys really hoard games on your disk that you no longer play?

>chink trash SSDs like me
What do you think the consoles are using?

A decompressing shader processor receives compressed blocks and then performs ON-THE-FLY decompression of the blocks.

>Your console with online will cost you around $1k
lolwhat? online is only $10/mn. even if you do ultimate gamepass that's only $15/mn. You only hit $1k cost after nearly 3 years, and gamepass comes with much more than just online.

does gamepass let you keep games when your sub expires?

The last console generation was 7 years. That's $420 worth of online you spent on top of the $500 console you bought. Remember to properly account for total cost of ownership.

>Your console with online will cost you around $1k

That's funny because last I checked the price was $499 USD. In Canada it's $599 CAD which is $449 USD.

And that SSD is shitty Gen3, with only 3GB/s read speeds. Your PC is literally more than twice the cost retard. And throw in a $65 xbox controller while you're at it.

If only you werent a lazy fuck and havent read only the first 3 sentences of abstract.

lol of course not, its a rental service

You fucking retards. He said "HURRR DURRR MY CPU WILL DO DECOMPRESSION FOR ME". This patent says nothing about CPU decompression. Holy fuck.

>online is only $10/mn
>$120/year for 4-5 years
>$480-600

that's even worse than paying for the full year, you really suck at math

Hurr durr ill move the goal post because i dont have an argument, You idiots deserve to be scalped with the bluntest of knives.

You're literally the one moving the goalposts by saying "my cpu will do decompression", and when you get shit on, you change subject to a patent for gpu decompression. Actually kill yourself faggot lol
