I've never played a Zelda game before, Zig Forums. Which ones are the best, what order do I play them, and what versions are the best for them?

Careful posting that pic OP. You'll attract a paranoid schizophrenic who thinks everyone who makes a thread about Ocarina of Time is the same person.

play twilight princess first, wind waker second, then ocarina of time third/link to the past

My preferred Zelda games are the GB games, in order. So Link's Awakening, then Oracle of Seasons, then Oracle of Ages (might swap the oracles around, can't remember which should be played first - but you carry your save over)

Play a Link to the Past on an emulator and if you like that one try the rest.

Just play ocarina and then quit zelda, you dont need to play the rest you have seen everything.

A Link to the Past then 3DS version of OoT then Majora's Mask 3D with the restoration mod

So not play MM3D without restoration mod.

Ocarina Of Time is still the corner stone of not only the Zelda series, but hugely inspirational GOAT in general. Can't go wrong with it.

Majora's Mask is a straight sequel to OoT, made for veteran fans. Highly recommended as well.

If you wanna test the waters with 2D Zeldas, see the GBC's Link's Awakening DX.

BotW was truly magnificent, very open-ended adventure unlike anything else on the market really. You can spend weeks playing that gem.

Rest are hit or miss.

Well I can assure you I'm not, so hopefully my post is seen as good faith.

botw is unironically the only good zelda game.

Play each game in release order on original console or with emulation.
Zelda 1 and 2 are a little dated (I still love both) but every game from LTTP onward holds up well today.

A Link to the Past
Link's Awakening (original)
Ocarina of Time
Breath of the Wild

OOT's the peak.
MM is the greatest sequel ever.
BotW is the greatest re-design + a return to roots title, 2 in 1.

Rest don't really matter. Check them out if you want.
Don't listen to 3DS kids. Those ports were fucked up big time.

>everyone recommending someone new to not start with the most accessible entries
OP just play TP & WW first off

/thread

You can't go wrong with Ocarina of Time. Just play it it's fun as hell.

start with Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past
if you like OoT, play the other 3D games
if you like ALTTP, play the other 2D games

Zelda 1
ALttP
Link's Awakening DX
Oracle of Seasons/Ages
Minish Cap
A Link Between Worlds

the rest can be skipped since they aren't true Zelda games

there's 2 types of zeldas. over-the-head and 3rd person. The former uses the monitor/tv screen as one frame. Moving up/down/left/right of that frame loads a new one. Some areas scroll, but otherwise those games are on an X/Y grid.
The latter works like any monster hunter or modern adventure game, but aiming with long range items goes into 1st person mode.
>over-the-head must plays
zelda 1
a link to the past
link's awakening
both oracle games (-of seasons & -of ages)
>3D must plays
ocarina of time
twilight princess
breath of the wild

>3D must plays
>Twilight Princess
you had one job, mate...

Thank you for the responses so far everyone.
From what I can gather, Link to the Past, OoT, and MM are the most recommended with honorable mentions going to TP, WW, BoTW, Oracle of Seasons, and Link's Awakening.

Now the question is, which versions of these do I play?

Thanks for the distinctions

>which versions of these do I play?
Nice triplez.
Anyway, can't go wrong with the original release versions. They're the most authentic and acclaimed ones. Emulating any Zelda isn't really an issue this day and age; even BotW can be ran at 4K / 60fps on modest systems. I was already emulating the N64 titles back in the Windows ME days.

> Twilight Princess first
OP, whatever you do, DON'T play Twilight Princess (or Majora's Mask or Wind Waker but especially Twilight Princess) first. These games are standalone, but they are still direct sequels to Ocarina of Time. There will be stuff that you won't appreciate because you didn't play Ocarina.

> AlttP
The original AlttP is better imo. I didn't like the voice they gave Link in the GBA version.

> OoT
OoT 3D comes with master quest, boss rush, better graphics, and quality of life improvements

> MM
Don't play this before OoT

This.
Fucking hell, I'd even go as far as recommend skipping TP.

Never ever play the 3d versions, this guy is a tasteless zoomer.

Got it, I will be sure to play OoT first

You confuse me big time. Your opinion is extremely based and pozzed at the same time. OP listen to this guy, just ignore the BOTW part

Link to the Past, Twilight Princess, Winkwaker, Majora's Mask, and Ocarina of Time are the easiest to emulate and find online. Play those and you'll have played most of the good ones.

>just ignore the BOTW part
There's no reason to be contrarian and hate a game just because it's "new" and trendy.
And if you're referring to the 2-in-1 part, that's true as well. It was legit based on LoZ1's design philosophies, rather than the post-LttP era linear and "story driven", guided approach that became the well known Zelda formula for 2 decades.

OoT 3D is the definitive way to experience OoT and no amount of seething will change that. Majora's Mask 3D was completely botched, though.

>OoT 3D is the definitive way to experience OoT
No, it really is not. Only boiling graphics whores prefer the 3DS port.

as everything, play in release order
