Just finished this game...

just finished this game. If you ignore some of the extra filler levels (I didn't 100% it and never even came across the Pachinko level) it's easily one of the best 3D platformers ever made, and my favorite Mario game.

don't be fooled Zig Forums, 99% of the seething comes from zoomers with no skills and completionists who treat games like work.

God, this is the best Mario game ever made. Its completely flawless in every way

This is the best Mario game. Also Sonic Adventure 2 is the best Sonic game, Ocarina and Majora's Mask are the best Zelda games and I was 10 when I played all of these games.

Collecting things is the point of a collect-a-thon platformer. If it's not fun to collect everything, it's bad design.

Also only played for the first time, I really liked it, but it seems needesly brutal? like if I fuck up on something I have to go pick yoshi again who needs a specific fruit and then do some other bullshit to only FINALLy get to the paltforming.

That and the game jsut kinda ends, was there like development problems or something?

I had more fun with Sunshine than I did with 64 while playing on Switch.
Sunshine has a few janky bits but the overall design is better than 64.

Fucking retard.

is it actually good? i hate collectathons desu and the levels seemed so big and annoying i never picked it up. mario 64 was okay but still had sooooo many annoying ass stars to find and some levels were just way too big

Gamecube wasn't selling so they had to rush it out pretty quick.
To a lesser extent it was Koizumi's first directing role and a lot of the staff were reluctant with his ideas.

I can see it, is a shame, the game itself is quite good, it just needs some polish.

Based and literally me.

I can't think of a single game that's worth 100%ing. By your criteria all collectathons and all games with optional extras are shit. If you beat the final boss that's it, you completed the game. Enjoy the postgame extras if you want to, but it's not bad design when the main game s fun and the devs decide to experiment and go wild with the bonus shit.

This but unironically

maybe mario galaxy for luigi, but its pretty pointless. for me 100%ing isn't for the reward

it is worse than mario 64 in every aspect

The only negative of sunshine is the unskippable 10 minute intro. Everything else is perfection.

>It's a good game if you ignore half the content even though it already has half the levels of its n64 predecessor
okay retard

>If you ignore some of the extra filler levels (I didn't 100% it and never even came across the Pachinko level) it's easily one of the best 3D platformers ever made, and my favorite Mario game.
>If you ignore literally 70% of the content, it's good
Sunshinefags everyone. 64 is infinitely more fun to play and 100%. It's an awful sequel that barely does anything to improve on 64 besides the bare minimum like a better camera and graphics.

i think the game could've been longer but the levels are so massive and creatively designed I'm still very happy with it. I loved accidentally discovering a secret shine in noki bay, and then finding out all levels have 2 secret shines + the one you get for 100 coins. and all the levels feel so lively. They somehow seem bigger and more lively than Odyssey levels
if you think big levels are bad even in 64, it's probably not for you

All 3D Mario games are "the best" when you only focus on the bare minimum and "most fun"/easiest collectibles to get. 100%ing the 3D Mario games are all pains in the ass outside of Galaxy 1 and 2.

>99% of the seething

Zoomers are the ones that unabashedly praise Sunshine. Before Gen Z became teenagers reception about Sunshine was good but not the universal acclaim that 64 and Galaxy got.

great. why do people love 3d mario before galaxy so much???? not bait like i genuinely just don't understand the appeal of running around looking for stars and doing easy and jank platforming

>if you ignore half the content
you don't have to ignore all the extra levels, just the ones you don't like, dumb coomer. The infamous ones are the bonus level in the island, the pachinko level and yoshi's fruit adventure. that's 3 shines out of 120.

Nostalgia and the fact Nintendo were the ones who basically wrote the book on 3D platforming games with Mario 64. Sunshine was probably just the Mario name carrying it higher than it should but otherwise they were the only ones tackling hub world 3D platformers at a consistent quality even if that quality isn't high by today's standards.

>but not the universal acclaim
it still doesn't have universal acclaim retard, most Zig Forums kids just parrot the criticism they hear from ecelebs

The only good platforming is the bonus levels, and Wario World did them better tbqh

>i think the game could've been longer

Oh, I don't necessarily think it should have been longer, it just changes mood near the end really quickly, and bowser kinda shows up out of nowhere.

oh its this galaxy schizo

>All 3D Mario games are "the best" when you only focus on the bare minimum
no. Sunshine's bare minimum is still more fun than Galaxy's and most other platformers

>if i don't like it and they do, it's muh nostalgia
this Zig Forumstard conclusion is getting tiring.

its just the same zoomers spamming the board

yea that's kinda how it seems. someone who likes it should explain the appeal

Any chance of Sunshine in 3d All-Stars unfucking the analog stick-to-movement speed acceleration in an update? It feels completely fucking wrong compared to the Gamecube original.

>If you ignore some of the extra filler levels
I was able to 100 percent every 3D Mario game except Sunshine and Odyssey. A game should be fun to complete, not tedious

Only reason I haven't 100%ed it is the levels are so stingy on coins. Really can't be fucked getting 100 in each level.

It is a pretty good game but one of the weaker 3d mario games in my opinion.

The controls and core gameplay are pretty good (FLUDD adds a lot of fun mechanics) but there are a lot of content that feels like filler/underdeveloped. Saying you can just ignore it (like the pachinko level) doesn't really work when a large percentage of the content can count as filler.

There are 240 blue coins which account for 24 stars in total, and a majority of the coins are hidden in mundane, tedious locations (kick durians into baskets in delfino plaza, spray random spots on beach for blue coins, using yoshi to spray beehives). Every Mario game has extra hidden stars that aren't that fun to get such as talking to the Toads in the palace in 64, but I feel like such a large portion of the stars in sunshine are these boring, extra stars. I mean Mario Odyssey has a bunch of mundane Moons too, but at least it feels like there's still a hefty chunk of content if you chose to ignore it.

Sunshine has the fewest amount of levels in any 3d mario game (almost half as many as 64) and yet has fewer "good" stars as the other games. I feel like the core content that you need to get to bowser in sunshine is all great, but after that, I feel little incentive to do most of the extra content since it's definitely the weakest part of the game for me.

Also some of the hidden, side areas are just outright bad. Like some of the worst in the series bad: pachinko level, pic related, I"M A CHUCKSTER. Nothing in any mario game has ever been more tedious than that segment where you had to ride Yoshi on boats to get to that secret island (except jumping rope in mario odyssey)

>Nothing in any mario game has ever been more tedious than that segment where you had to ride Yoshi on boats to get to that secret island

I hated this shit, the level itself isn't that bad, but knowing if I run out of lives I have to do the yoshi shit again made me jsut drop it.

I had to look up a guide to 100-coin a couple stages, because apparently some of them are really fucked unless you choose a specific mission type, and know level-specific tricks to eek out extra coins from the environment.
