Yep.

I agree, it ruined the genre forever.

*stares at saw blade stuck in ceiling for 30 seconds*

HOW DID THAT GET THERE!?

I think of it more like Amnesia was so good, too many games tried to replicate what made it so good.

I played Amnesia and I didn't find it particularly good or innovative, care to elaborate?

its a bait thread

>Silent Hill Resident Evil
Both copied AitD, but you already mentiioned it.

>Clock Tower, Project Zero,

what horror games take influence from amnesia again?

It nailed atmosphere and setting in a genre that should've focused on it long ago. Horror at the time was just filled with ghosts and zombies, and combat/self-defense took away from the defenselessness that horror gives you
The third person of RE and some of the setting points required a lot of suspension of belief for the game to work and it took away from the immersion and atmosphere, and a similar argument can be made for other games with the weird nonsensical puzzles and locations. But Amnesia was the first game to properly nail a good setting, plot, and gameplay evolution that kept the majority playing constantly shitting themselves

>Who?
What are you even doing on this board?
Shit like Outlast for example are following the hide and seek blueprint of Clock Tower.

SOMA, Alien Isolation, Outlast, Resident Evil 7.

>Outlast for example are following the hide and seek blueprint of Amnesia

Fixed. Outlast was a cheesy B-movie copy of Amnesia.

Penumbra was the pioneer in that case not amnesia, and when it comes to ambiance and mood Project Zero/Fatal Frame is far spookier and dread inspiring than Amnesia or Penumbra in my opinion.

Clock Tower is like 25 years old and already did it then.

Not in first person though, which every hide&seek simulator in recent year has done it in.

Penumbra was the first big first person western horror series.
Also there is Echno Night made by From in 1998 that set the blueprint for what Penumbra did and Amnesia followed.

Penumbra was pretty niche and never big. Not even with Black Plague. And the shitty third title went unnoticed.

Amnesia was the one which exploded in populairty, mostly thanks to streamers, which is something not exactly to be proud of, but at least Frictional got some money and reputation from it.

>literally just an inferior Penumbra clone
HMMMMM

Everything you just listed had been coined by Frictional themselves YEARS before Amnesia came out.

Not that hyped for Amnesia Rebirth. The dark descent is a masterpiece but SOMA was a bit of a disappointment (still a good experience tho).

Being the most popular, notably due to its coincidence with the streamer/youtuber facecam shit does not mean influence or even quality.

Penumbra: Overture was Frictional's best game, it was actually a decent adventure game along with being horror. Not having any means to fight at all really decreases the scare factor, tension becomes boredom and exasperation
