If I irreconcilably loathe roguelikes/roguelites down to a fundamental level, is there still a Sliver of a chance I might like this game because of Supergiant? I've lost all patience for RNG-driven level scenarios and loadouts, the loss of progression that comes with a wipeout in these games, and the general lack of level design + difficulty curve that's supposed to ease you into the game's difficulty, so I've been holding off of trying this game out despite its massive presence on all of my media channels.

dunno about the others but you get unique dialogue and content for just about every death and the story is best experienced through multiple losses. dying is a big part of the game. additionally a lot of what you gain during a run is currency that you keep upon death to upgrade and buy things, so you always make SOME progress.

Well this game in particular very strongly emphasizes growth between runs. I'm about 50 hours in and I don't even have half the talents maxed out, or half of all the weapon types. The rest though, pretty much what you described. There's definitely a difficulty curve though, they ease you into most of the forms of upgrades and such.

There's very little RNG on the stages in itself. You got the same mini boss fights, the same boss fights with minor alterations, the layout is the same for the rooms more or less. The major RNG are the powers, but if you got a brain, 90% of the time, any combo will be good. Is a free game right now, and is worth one run at least.

Sword with the aspect that lets you get your cast back when you use special is really good. And apparently Excalibur aspect is broken.
Gun is super good too, I like using the aspect that buffs your shots when you stand in the AoE of your special.

No, because it's roguelike to the core. Super grindy and most the content is locked beyond grinding. The reason it's full of waifufags in this thread is because that's all it has to offer. They made a roguelike sitcom with some decent but extremely repetitive gameplay between episodes.

basic sword aspect maxed out is super good imo. curse upgrade from the hammer is incredible, as is flurry, and combined they're broken.

Gun heavily relies on what buffs you find, especially hammers.
Sword sucks as a starter weapon but is good once you learn the game.
Shield is best weapon in the game. Once you get a bay blade and keep full melee function you can deal with anything.
Bow is a fun shotgun but the single shots just too slow to be effective late game.
Fists are fun as fuck but you need to know how to use them.
Spear is good but needs the right buffs. If you get the wrong ones your build is bipolar and can't push enough damage through. Get the right ones and it's rape time.
