Not having fast travel from the start was the best design decision they made and every other game in the series is worse in this regard by far.
Make an argument against this without being filtered.

Backtracking is boring and pointless.
Filtered, if you need to backtrack, its most likely your fault and shortcuts are there to make it faster, but the game isn't meant to give you a comfortable experience. Blighttown would be shit if you could just fast travel out at any time too
Nah, I own the game, I have the right to do whatever I want. Used a save editor to give my toon max stats and bonfire teleport from the very beginning.
it's ok for the 1st/2nd playthrough
OP is right dude. Getting fast travel felt like a real power up, as you were finally able to explore freely after earning that ability.
Blight town or Tomb of the giants wouldn't have been half as oppressive (and thus, memorable) if you could just GTFO at any point. The greatest thing DS1 had was exploration and suddenly ending up stuck in an area with the only way out being forward after you went in too deep.
Just proved my point exactly, can't play a game for shit that doesn't treat you like you're the center of the universe.
Don’t care. Me >>> shitty video game.
"I have the right to..."
What a fucking fag, I bet you played Doom with iddqd and shit. Why even bother giving your opinion on a game you didn't even play?
This is a point I can actually see, but I'm still unsure. I don't see how thats necessarily a bad thing. The game is only meant to be played twice for the story, most paths are only split in two. After the third playthrough you'd only play the game for challenge runs or different builds, but even then I think theres a certain challenge in beating the game in an efficient way without fast travelling.
Trying to prove that your opinion is better that someone else's. Get fucked.
"I want to play hardcore games but don't want to put in effort".
Your parents must be so fucking disappointed in you, but at the same time, they spoiled you so much they can't even tell you. I bet you still ask mommy to cut of the crust of your sandwiches you spoiled brat.
Demon's souls allowed you to start right at the beggining of 5-2 , and it still fucked me 10 times more than blighttown.
I could see you being able to keep bonfire warp (ie Lordvessel) on NG+ as being a positive addition to the game. But for first playthrough's, it adds a shit ton.
Nah, I would rather put effort into uni and exercise. Video games aren’t worth it.
>tfw finished all the Dork Souls games with cheats and loved them all (except the petrified giant backtracking in 2)
Demons Souls is a weird case though, as it's built completely differently than DS. And yeah, 5-2 was the stuff of nightmares, I still dread returning to that level.
But the amount of routes/paths in 2-2 was mindblowing at the time, I'd often forget that I was looking for a boss, completely lost in the exploration.
I agree honestly the world in 1 is simply unmatched by anything else
>still visits Zig Forums
yeah, nice try
Good, you should play video games for your own enjoyment. Who cares what some loser nerd developer intended.
nigga you realize how cringe you sound saying that? the fuck are hardcore games? dark souls is not even hard it just has shit controls that you need to get used to
t big faggot fan of dark souls in general
>Elevator from Undead Parish to Firelink
One of the greatest OH SHIT! moments. Everything clicked in that one instant.
What does that have to do with what I said? I play video games and I completed the game in OP and its sequels too.
the best part is that it actually does connect
like it doesnt teleport you there using a loading screen or something its fucking amazing
>how cringe you sound
>nigga
wow...
Why don't you start by explaining why not having it is a good thing? Blighttown is the only area before getting the Lordvessel that isn't trivially easy to get through the second time, and even that still gets significantly easier, it's just a bit of a pain (especially on versions with dogshit framerate) and takes a few minutes. I guess there's some merit in showing the player how much better they've become, but other than that, how does it actually make it better?
never said im not cringe
Eh, it's a good fit for the first game because it introduces the idea of the world. But once you're playing the sequels, not having fast travel by default is just tedius.
Also, you are implying that there is a specific point in any of the games beyond which it would be okay to allow the player to fast travel - and if I asked you what point that is in each game, you could not give me an answer. Tough.
based
>hardcore games
>dark souls
fast travel is not just used for casualness, some games are just to big and need it so it does not become boring and repetitious. imagine if fast travel was unlocked at veldstalt at ds2. not only would i be bored i would be pissed as in that game lifegems are lifeblood and one of the only places to get them is majula. one miscalculation on how many you need would pain you so much you would either have to tough thru a hard area with the shitty amount of healing estus gave you or run back to home over the course of a 1 and a half to 1 hour for your healing. also there is not much lore reason for it to be locked. these games are most likely related to each other and ds1 was first in chronological order in ds1 fast travel was unlocked for everyone.
If by "complete" you mean cheat your way to the end then I "completed" Bayonetta pure platinum by looking up the win screen on google. You definetly *can* do that but how will you take part in conversations about it or any other medium for that matter (which you clearly are trying to)
DS1 is one big vertical shaft.
Demon Ruins -> elevator to Queelag -> Blightown -> elevator to New Londo -> elevator to Firelink -> elevator to Andre -> cage elevator to top of Sen's -> gargoyles "elevator" to Anor Londo
Yes, especially DS2 and DS3 where you can't abuse poise and tank and estus spam through hits vs endgame bosses.
No joke, realizing I had to climb OUT of Blighttown is the closest I ever got to permanently bailing on a Souls game.
Thankfully the other way up was piss easy. I went down from the gaping dragon route, oh my fucking god that sucked.
I discuss it all the time on Zig Forums, never had any issues. Played it from the start in the prison cell to the fight against Gwyn and watched the ending scene.
