FFXIV is Squareenix's money printer while every other game they make is a shot in the dark to see what sticks. Nomura is currently on KH and I believe the FF7R sequels.

As someone who skipped XIV (and XI for that matter) because I don't give a shit about MMOs, catching up on this guy has been fun. The XVI trailer didn't exactly rock my world, but every comment he makes is unironically based, so this is is sticking on my "cautious optimism" radar.

Worst comes to worst it'll be a budget DMC game with a Game of Thrones skin, which still sounds like a straight upgrade from where we are now. I'm so sick of soulless FF trying to relive the glory days and failing. Maybe throwing it all away anf starting fresh is really what needs to happen.

Yoshi took the worst parts of WoW after it started its tailspin, and yes WoW has singlehandedly ruined every MMO after it, that's what I dislike. Those parts that they latch onto and rely on when making a new MMO are terrible for the health of an online game. ilvl power creep is awful and building everything around pvp and instanced, scripted raids is fucking retarded, it only lets you proceed by creating content every ~3 months. They need to do something different.

It was so bad it literally almost bankrupted SE and the president had to come out and publicly apologize for forever tarnishing the brand. You are severely underplaying how absolutely catastrophic XIV's failure was and the ripple effects it had throughout the company which are still being felt to this day. Yoshi-P was given the impossible task of stopping the Titanic from sinking after it already hit the iceberg, and he actually did it - that doesn't stop the Titanic from being damaged and its reputation as being unsinkable ruined, but at least all the passengers survived.

That's about what I expected, utter nonsense with no source or substance behind it.
