I want to play 64 but I just can't deal with the shit controls and camera. Should I play the DS version instead? Is that one really better, even if they removed the soul of it?

>this game has shit controls should i play it with a touch screen instead?
fucking think for a second OP

>shit controls and camera.
Both are fucking excellent. WTF are you on?
Are zoomies literally getting filtered by a children's game from 1996, or did Nintendo fuck up the Switch port ?

>DS port
Imagine wanting to play a 3D platformer WITHOUT an analog stick nor proper camera controls, with fuck tons of grindy shit poured on top.
No you fucking moron, it's all around inferior.

>Both are fucking excellent.
controls, yes. camera, no.

>free control camera is now an issue
you fags DO use the far-off mode, no??

Both are even worse in DS version

mario cam + c-down is the best way to use the sm64 camera. that said, it's still pretty jank, especially in indoor areas like the pyramid and the igloo.

Play the native PC port you tard

People who are whining about the analog controls never played the DS version OP.
The game been heavily made so you can control perfectly with the DS D-pad.
SM64 fags are one of the most autistic communities I ever seen anyway and you should ignore them.
So yeah, play the DS version if you want.

Play both
64 on n64 is 10/10
64DS is 9.5/10 and probably the second best 3D mario game

>I want to play 64 but I just can't deal with the shit controls and camera
Then why do you want to play SM64? Did you at least play a bit and try to get used to it, or are you really looking at the game from a distance trying to get in on playing it without having to play it

>moves on it owns for no reason
>sometimes can't get the view you want because it collides with everything
>locked horizontal angles
>constantly make dumb noises

have you been frozen since 1996 and recently thawed? even other n64 games improved upon cameras in the consoles lifetime

I got every star in the DS version and it's an embarrassingly bad version of the game. People who like it are objectively stupid and should feel ashamed of themselves.

Just play the PC version. Obviously it'll run on even the most potato machine you have and it plays far better than any other version.

You should probably kill yourself for being terrible at videogamed

The 64 camera was NOT this bad. You people have to be doing something grossly wrong.

Nice shitty ass bait.
Why would you even 100% a game that you consider inferior to the original when it's the same game with QoL improvements? Seems utterly retarded and a waste of your time.

Why do people complain about the 64 camera when the Galaxy camera is objectively worse? You have so little control over it that it feels like you're playing an old-school RE game. The number of times I've tried to position it right to set up jumps and it just won't go. Or the number of times it's arbitrarily changed view mid-jump and fucked up the landing (looking at you Honey Hive Galaxy). Galaxy's camera is the worst Mario camera hands-down.

You can use the DPad retard.
>Inb4 hurr durr it's shit literally unplayable
Got all the stars with the Dpad. Cope. Get good.

>Why would you even 100% a game that you consider inferior
good fucking question
>it's the same game with QoL improvements?
lmao no it's not. it's a completely different game with the same level geometry + filler.

Even the controls are bad

I want the zoomer to leave

You are a mockery of a human being. Literal 5 year olds today are playing the All-Stars release of Mario 64 and they aren't having any trouble.

no they aren't

>game tries out new camera mode
>games after it improve upon it

WHOA! Even then, the camera in SM64 is not as big of an issue as people pretend. Either you have the camera too close, or you forget about even moving it and then complain.

Yes they are.

Controls are great overall, though turning can be pretty inconsistent, sometime turns on the spot, sometimes he runs in an arc. It is possible to do exactly what you want, but in the heat of the moment I feel like I often end up doing one instead of the other, leading to problems. As for the camera, it's pretty bad. It was good for its time and you can get used to it, but it is pretty bad by modern standards.
DS is pretty good in its own right. It's an upgrade in some respects, a downgrade in others. Controls are surprisingly good, though.

The original n64 version is unironically better and makes the camera more tolerable

>though turning can be pretty inconsistent, sometime turns on the spot, sometimes he runs in an arc
no, whether this happens or not is entirely consistent and controllable. it's based on your speed.

whenever i watch people casually play sm64 on twitch or something they barely even use the camera buttons and then complain about how shit the camera is. it's so fucking stupid.

Bad wording, I suppose. That's what I meant by
>It is possible to do exactly what you want, but in the heat of the moment I feel like I often end up doing one instead of the other, leading to problems
I guess I'd just prefer tighter turning in general. I can't see any cases where that small arc he does would be useful. I just find it a pain in the ass on small platforms and shit.

DS's controls are better, but it gets annoying since you have to hold a button to run
Just git gud and play 64 instead

I fully agree with you. Precise platforming in mario 64 feels like shit. Not to even mention the mess that is trying to move when close to a wall or on a slope. These problems are exclusive to this title, people who think the controls are good are blinded by nostalgia.

>DS's controls are better

I think the controls are good for the most part, it just has a bunch of those small annoyances.

Just don’t play it if you don’t want to.
I’m almost 30 and I haven’t beaten this garbage. Ignore tendie games.

They are and you can also just pick Luigi and skip the entire gameplay by backflipping
DS's controls are good, but 64's controls are better IF you git gud. If you are literally unable to get used to 64's controls, then just play DS
