Y'know, the game's actually kinda sorta fun.

Reminder that these are shill posts from serious sam 4 discord and the game is trash

I'd give you my opinion on it but Civvie11 hasn't made it for me yet.

It is, it's just the game being buggy as fuck. Also turn off parallax mapping if your having issues.

Do I just need to write these things on the console?

Thanks, I will try it out!

He likes it :-)

Hi an0n.

The game is legitimately fun.
The performance issues and bugs however suck and Croteam better gets that shit sorted out soon.

Either that, or edit /userdata//257420/local/SeriousSam4.ini

I've been really enjoying my time with it, It certianly stands up to the series
based on the reviews before I had a chance to play it I thought we had another SS3, but luckily I was wrong

the only complaint I have so far, is the performance, it's not what I'd expect for my rig, but I know they plan to fix these

Good game, i don't even understand why it's decisive, it's just good, has a nice contrast to Doom Eternal

As with every Serious Sam game though, or any FPS, you should be playing on the hardest-nonbullshit difficulty, even on your first playthrough, it will make it way more fun

S+MB1 Sam

Pick up the pill, user.

somethingsomething keeping doing the same thing or something

Would love to hand off my gamesave to a SS "pro" and see how he gets on. Kinda fucked myself but it's an interesting hole to try to get out of.

Sounds like what every player that sucks at serious Sam gets whenever they play it.

I'm really on the fence. On one hand, if the bugs and performance issues were fixed, it would be a competend game, on the other, this is what BFE should have been, just 9 years late. It doesn't really add much and is extremely frustrating in cucking the player from weapons/gadgets, etc. Also the Legion system was a total fucking scam. TFE/TSE are still the kings.

pros:
>shooting shit is satisfying as fuck
>dual wielding is amazing
>new enemies are mostly fun to fight sans the snipers and some of the redesigns are great, especially the Witch Brides
>driving from a mechanical standpoint works actually really well
>if you do the sidequests and look for secrets it's surprisingly long
>everything in Carcassonne and the final level
>Sam himself is still a fun character and entertaining character

cons:
>flat out unfinished and buggy as hell
>often too much clutter on screen which makes some enemies near invisible, especially Reptiloids atop of buildings blending in with tree canopies
>a lot of oddly empty dead ends and areas in the first half of the game and areas that look like they're designed to lead to secrets but simply don't
>that fucking oilrig level - why the hell is this in the game and especially at this point of it?
>a lot of weapons are again barely in the game despite some being excessively marketed like the laser
>some of the skills are flat out pointless like the one for makeshift melee weapons
>NPCs need to fucking go
>melee kills are ass

neutral:
>the legion system should've never been advertised and kept a secret - yes, it actually works and IS a nice trick but it's barely in the game and all you can think of is "damn, this should've been in the France level where you try to break through the lines with the harvester or mech"
>same for the terrain engine and the giant levels - I wouldn't call what's there bad but more along the lines of sheer madness and the epitome of "wide as an ocean deep as a puddle"
>gadgets feel overpowered and like "I win" buttons but are thankfully mostly optional
>the writing is really a hate it or love it thing

>use the psychotropic grenade
>watch the greatest battle royale

try throwing C4 at them

I also see the rage serum there, that makes you run faster.

these helped tremendously for me and now the game actually looks a bit better imo
if anyone else is having issues try these first

Also, I can't help but think that a lot of the mechanics, especially something close to the end, were also made as testbed for different games they're may or may not be planning.

What SS should I start with?

great balanced review imo!

I'll take a screenshot of what I'm talking about in a bit.

TLDR: completely skipped one massive battle by fleeing from it to get to the checkpoint where there would hopefully be medkits. Another massive battle started at the checkpoint but the massive battle I ran from followed me and caught up. So now it's just a massive death ball of cows, kleers, rockets, several types of titans, firebois and snipers. And because it's France, the only weapons you have are shotguns, pistols and the AR. It's a bad time.

>>some of the skills
Serious Sam has fucking skills?

Perks, more like. Like being able to reload and shoot while sprinting, sometimes getting a drop from a kill, etc.

Agreed, I don't get why Croteam leaves these fun little mechanics for the very end, in their typical pretty weak boss fights.

>SS3 they gave you a jetpack, which only returns if you get the DLC, never makes an appearance in Sam 4
>SS4 gives you a grappling hook to climb up the boss Colossus style, but never allows you to use the grappling hook in more sensible roll like using to wrangle and ride werebulls/knuhms, or refilling the roll of the Sirian laser bracelet from SS4.

There's so many missed opportunities and stupid decision that me wonder "why?", that you can tell they hurried to kick this out the door.

Yeah, by default you can't dual-wield weapons and melee-kill big enemies. There's also support stuff like enemies occasionally dropping ammo or gaining resistance/damage while you're low on health.

isn't that the witness/braid guy?

Chronologically is perfectly good
First & Second Encounter HD
Serious Sam 2
Serious Sam 3 (Some people like this one a lot, so I think you should still try it for yourself, I just know I don't like it)
then Serious Sam 4

Sweet

>Serious Sam 2
Way to go ruining people's enjoyment of the series.

Any good mods to make the experience better?

Because you don't like it?

or because it's the best one of the series?

You can play TFE, TSE, and SS3 all from the Fusion launcher. It's recommended to play the Fusion version of SS3 anyways since it fixes a ton of stuff. Also 2 will probably fry your brain so just keep that in mind.

I'm so fucking sick of those jumping puzzle secrets

Attached: 20200927202245_1.jpg (2560x1440, 706.47K)

This has made load times significantly longer. Almost 2 minutes just to get the splash screen.

What's fusion launcher? I'm confused after looking it up?

Give that grappling hook a cooldown and it would've been a neat tool for repositioning yourself during larger fights that could've been used during the whole game

Maybe it's my starvation for new titles in the genre but the whole mech section in France also felt like there is a genuinely good and maybe somewhat arcade-y mech game hidden somewhere in here that could be made with those foundations.

If you get any of the Serious Engine 3 games, it comes with Fusion. It's basically just a way to play TFE, TSE, and BFE all under one frontend.
BFE got a few gameplay tweaks in this. mostly QoL changes like being able to reload and sprint at the same time, but also some balance changes like new enemy attacks.

Ah well I won't be getting it on steam so
From what i've seen it's a steam thing

It also gives me worse performance than without. I guess I'm just doomed to play this game as a slideshow.

Something's been bothering me. Why is the G in Gnaar not silent anymore?
