Do we really have to ask Kojima about this scene?

I need to get back into peace walker. Started it this past week and having a good time. I love hearing my boy RAD in more stuff.

What's not to get? Big Boss' favourite soldier got put in a coma for 9 years, was brainwashed and went through plastic surgery and spent the past year thinking he was Big Boss while the real deal was away doing his own thing.

It doesn't mean anything beyond Venom Snake realising he's worthless and a tool, just like Naked Snake did in Snake Eater. Plus his absolute rejection of the world like Peace Walker.

Next Gen Legacy Collection fucking WHEN Konami?

>It doesn't mean anything beyond Venom Snake realising he's worthless and a tool, just like Naked Snake did in Snake Eater. Plus his absolute rejection of the world like Peace Walker.
See, this is the problem. It's so obvious it is that way but people like to argue that it it's something else regardless. Especially when Kojima's closest friend who assisted on the game has something completely different in mind when it comes to interpreting the game.
famitsu.com/news/201602/26099526.html
The aspergers never ends.

>Interviewer: but Big Boss doesn't try to conceal his motives with a righteous justification
....he literally does this in the MSX games and it's already present at some level in PW. Someone shoot this guy please.
>To be more precise, the aim is to reveal that the system the world runs on defines Big Boss's existence as "evil."
>now you have to experience first-hand the absurdity of being branded a villain by the manipulating ways of the global status quo
Big Boss's existence is literally evil. He chooses to fight for whichever side pays the most in contract and that incites further cycles of conflict, manipulation, and revenge around the world. He recognizes this later in the MSX games and deliberately wants it to carry on because at that point he's consumed by engulfing himself in war.
>Then it becomes their story. They themselves participated in the massacre on Mother Base, Quiet's disappearance, Huey's exile.
No, it becomes the story of a man with absolutely no mental state other than a subconscious brainwashed by memories of Big Boss which is carried on by him justifying everything Big Boss does through "muh myth." WHAT EVERY GODDAMN FUCKING MSF SOLDIER IN PEACE WALKER JOINED BIG BOSS FOR. PEACE WALKER WAS LITERALLY ABOUT HOW ZERO'S ATTEMPT TO FRAME BIG BOSS AS A HERO WILLL CREATE INDOCTRINATED SLAVES THAT WILL BE EXPLOITED BY BIG BOSS HIMSELF.
>Right. It's possible to interpret MGSV as Ishmael being played by Big Boss. But Ishmael is still the narrator: the will to keep speaking, the will to live the impossible, even after a world has ended. It's the presence of Ishmael that demonstrates it is possible to tell a story in a world that no longer is.
The point of V and the MSX games is about Big Boss becoming insane with his ideals And EXPLOITING HIS BEST MAN GODDAMMIT
>uhmmmm the world is painting big boss as a exaggerated hero, restore him to the original hero he should be like restoring moby dick's legacy to the way it should be
OK I'm done.

>still doesn't get the point of Venom Snake
lol filtered
I won't bother to address the rest of your points even though they have some validity, as there's a reason Kojima refers to this article as an "MGSV theory" in his Twitter.

>Koj (translated in article): "V liberates Snake from the bonds of fate, and by passing the baton to the player - who was previously bound to Snake - they can bring the legend full circle. This parting of ways should not become some phantom pain, but an empty space that, by remaining unfilled, serves as motivation for the player to move forward."
>Yano: Kojima actually explained to me personally back in 2011 how V would be structured. [..] at that point Ishmael was actually Huey.
>Kojima has talked about “giving Snake back to the player” with V
>Making BB Ishmael (the narrator), and the player Ahab (another BB), was done in order to have the player fulfill the final role in the series, saving this world on the brink of ending, and at the same time saving this saga that had to come to an end at some point.

>(at 1:18:50) Joosten: [KojiPro] told us in a way its still [BB]. The meaning behind it is that the player is [BB] in this game.

>Koj: In reality, Snake is and always has been nothing more than an extension of the player. He's your alter ego. Therefore, I made a very conscious effort this time to bring him closer to the player's perspective.

>Koj during GDC2013 joked during the trailer for TPP that Miller's question of "what about him?" was in reference to himself [Koj].
>Author Nojima [Yano], citing an email from Koj, explained that the player brings the story full circle in their own way, with the role of Venom making the story truly theirs, and not necessarily restricted to the fate of BB in the early games. Kojima and the player creating the story together "is something traditional movies and books could not do."

Literally Kaz
>muh MSF is a new kind of business
>muh revenge also we need business to get our revenge
Compare to this:
>A military nation above and apart from all - the true "Outer Heaven." Something created to **maintain world balance.** Independent of the struggles for supremacy, **for personal profit, the cycles of revenge between countries.**
(I guess this is different from the MSX Outer Heaven).

Not you again.

BiBo

I wasn't going to click on the thread initially, but here am I.
They wouldn't let you create an avatar and SHOW you that in the prologue and the end for no reason at all.
I don't get why we have to do this back and forth, it's a shame people think of Kojima more of a writer rather than the game designer and director he's always been (you could argue he's both but whatever), fourth wall breaks like Venom Snake being You in the story (when you think about it the mirror scene is a literal "wall" break) have always been Kojima's cheeky way of reminding you that the story doesn't really matter and that you are playing a game, and being the boomer he is, he always made sure to have simple stupid mainstream themes about "passing xyz to the next generation" because he knew his shit is being played by young adults and he wanted to inspire them. Not to mention that he retcons just for the sake of making what he thinks is going to be a "fun" experience. kotaku.com/metal-gear-solid-v-might-break-canon-but-kojima-says-t-1462498245
But NOOOOOOO all of this has got to mean something amazing, something revolutionary, that even Kojima and the developers couldn't think of, right bros?
>The point of V is about Big Boss becoming insane with his ideals And EXPLOITING HIS BEST MAN GODDAMMIT
I wish I was tonedeaf so I would be siding with you and not having this conversation at all.......
The colors look good in pic related, don't they? Ohhhh and this sounds good, doesn't it? youtube.com/watch?v=rPgM9zvWS-I
Hmm, I wonder what's that logo on his jacket.........thank you my friend.
From here on out, have sex and either play the game for enjoyment (if MGSV brings you that) or stop seething on Zig Forums, the seething literally helps no one (i'd get it if someone asked if they should buy the game or not) and only makes it worse for everyone involved.

>A military nation above and apart from all - the true "Outer Heaven." Something created to **maintain world balance.** Independent of the struggles for supremacy, **for personal profit, the cycles of revenge between countries.**
This is literally no different from MSF's goal; bring not world peace but a compromise between peace and war. In other words, a temporary peace for each side that pays them the most contract (in other words, said peace will last until someone decides to fight said side again, it's an armistice rather than real peace, which is permanent.) They're acting as peacekeepers, militants, rather than peacelovers, singers. The act of mindlessly "bringing armistice" for whichever side pays them the most causes what The Boss mentioned about the cycle of friends and enemies to further itself. Big Boss's existence is evil like it or not. He could have put down the gun and "sung" like The Boss, make peace with Zero and do whatever he pleases instead of retaliating from him. But nooooooooooooooooooo, "gotta be a soldier!"

Only difference between MSF's goal and this one is that the latter has a much bigger plan to secure itself as a national power, by taking the world hostage.

Will ever metal gear thread start like this now?

fuckin love rowans voice, get a warm feeling every time i hear his voice in other games like tf2 and skyrim

This, it makes the most sense. The Outer Heaven Uprising seems to be the most shallow out of the MG events but it has some interesting stuff behind the scenes.
>The Patriots notice a powerful mercenary state near South Africa
>All eyes are on Big Boss and suspicion is high
>To prove his innocence, Big Boss says that he will deploy FOXHOUND to destroy this rogue state
>Big Boss does not want FOXHOUND to actually destroy Outer Heaven so he purposefully sabotages his own unit
>Big Boss gives Venom Snake multiple tapes to help Venom intercept and capture the FOXHOUND operatives sent to Outer Heaven
>The Patriots now believe that Big Boss is trying his best to destroy Outer Heaven and let Big Boss continue
>This buys Venom Snake more time to finish TX-55 Metal Gear to destroy the Patriots in a fashion similar to Liquid's plan in MGS4
>The first FOXHOUND operative, Grayfox, is successfully captured by Venom so Big Boss sends the rookie Solid Snake to keep up the ruse
>Solid Snake does too well despite the efforts of Venom and Big Boss
>Solid Snake goes way too far in Outer Heaven and discovers that Big Boss is the leader of it
>Big Boss is in absolute hot water with Patriots as he is now enemy #1 for his attempted coup against them
>As Solid Snake approaches Venom, Venom plays the final tape Big Boss assigned to him
>The tape says that Venom must die so that the Patriots think that Big Boss was killed by Solid in Outer Heaven, allowing the real Big Boss to freely operate
>Venom gets pissed off due to the resemblance between this scenario and the scenario that the Boss was placed in by Coldman in Operation Snake Eater
>Venom punches the mirror and the rest is history

Yes, every Metal Gear thread will start like this now because MGSV ruined any good video game discussion. The ending was too vauge, you see people still trying to dissect it in [current year], that's how shitty it is, it left people off with bad bitter reception.

If Venom actually explained why he punched the mirror then we could go on with our lives.

except that Big Boss didn't expect Venom to die

there's no facts, only interpretations
that cutscene can be either a love letter to the fans or a big fuck you to them

Attached: 1572250712750.jpg (238x357, 28.89K)

>The tape says that Venom must die so that the Patriots think that Big Boss was killed by Solid in Outer Heaven, allowing the real Big Boss to freely operate
This as plausible as it is and how it deeply parallels to MGS3, is still headcanon. Big Boss in MGS4 never said that when they found out about what he was up to that he was gonna "kill himself" to fool the Patriots to think he was dead. But 4 was released before MGSV and the double twist, so whatever.

That quote has absolutely nothing to do with the mirror whatsoever, it's about how there are two Big Bosses

Yeah he didn't, Venom's death was not in the original plan. The original plan was stalling the Patriots long enough for Venom to finish Metal Gear and kill the AIs. Venom's death was final resort and worst possible scenario, it wasn't supposed to happen. Big Boss didn't want Venom to die, Venom was a major part of him and his plan

Kojima needed a way to explain how Solid Snake needed to kill Big Boss twice.

>"yet another parallel to The Boss!!!!!!!!!!"
Oh my fucking god, we already had Liquid Ocelot. Jesus fucking christ write an actually original character Kojima

Think about it, MSX game is the start of Solid's adventure and 3 is the start of Big Boss's adventure. It totally makes sense. Venom makes perfect sense to be "The Boss but a man."

Isn't it obvious it was meant to be open to interpretation? There's no one true way Venom feels in that scene. This game has many such cases. Nothing wrong with discussing it though. I think the reasoning was to give MGS fans something to argue about for many years to come.

>Venom gets pissed off due to the resemblance between this scenario and the scenario that the Boss was placed in by Coldman in Operation Snake Eater
>Venom punches the mirror and the rest is history
That doesn't explain the demon in the mirror (unless the demon is Big Boss himself) and the two Venoms

The Boss is a very important person to Venom and Big Boss, traces of her story are withing theirs. The Boss' story is just a story of person following what they are told blindly, Raiden and Solid did too but the Boss' story ended tragically and her story was during a pre Patriot era

Kojima and his friends aren't trustworthy

>The Boss' story is just a story of person following what they are told blindly
Except she knew she was being used halfway in her life. She regardless let herself continue to be used, because it to her was "singing," making peace with the U.S. Government.
She didn't want to retaliate because retaliation to her is "fighting" and "fighting" creates the construct of "friends and enemies" that she defined to be relative and pointless. Something that Big Boss never got until the very end, jesus.

Why Venom continued to let himself be used when he knew that he was, I don't know. Maybe it was to "sing." or maybe he was following orders for the sake of following orders like a loyalist.

Nothing in 4 really contradicts the theory to my knowledge

I think travis touchdown is still my favorite video game character of all time, and a lot of that is because of Downes' voice

Kojima only ever made one Metal Gear game and he just remade it another 7 times. They literally all have the same character archetypes and story.

>"Kaz, I'm already a demon"
Being a demon is how Venom always saw himself.

Are you fucking serious? V shit on a lot of things that 4 established, Big Boss saying in 4 that he "took the hit but survived" compared Big Boss getting a body double and using it to fool the Patriots into thinking he's dead would be a pretty huge retcon and deal.

The story of Metal Gear was perfectly explainable without a body double, Metal Gear should have stopped after PW.
