The fog is part of the lore. Yes, they made the fog-based lore because of technical limitations of the PS3, but we liked it that way, why don't they just create a new game.

I just finished playing on emulator a few days ago and I do have to say the art direction they went for the buildings is rather inconsistent with the original, to the point where only the general layout is the same, but everything else looks different.

I just finished it and it definitely isn't. While I think it's weird they're changing the aesthetics of the buildings I really hope they do fix a lot of the gameplay mistakes like you mentioned. Overall I'd say probably a solid 7.5/10 for me personally.
