All players can interact with the world map simultaneously

>all players can interact with the world map simultaneously
>the entire server could duke it out in pvp anywhere any time
>player based economy
>the only game to ever get player housing right
>open world with zero instancing
>cities and towns that are more than lifeless hubs

its fucking sad that the first MMO was also the best even two decades after

>zoomers didn't have to deal with this

be grateful

>he played shitty f2p mmorpgs
you don't get to make fun of anyone you deranged fuck

>tfw all my normie friends telling me about their Among Us stories and situations
>Have an entire repertoire of stories from playing Tibia that are similar but a billion times more engaging and fledged out
God fucking dammit I want to go back to that magical summer where I had 3 full months of Premium and 3 IRL friends to play along with.

>not having a freebie underclass to abuse
ngmi

This game used to mog everything modern, I can't even tell a story about the game without sounding like I'm talking about some movie.

Goddamn what a time that was.

Is it still around?

yes

Don't bother, modern Tibia is essentially a different game.

>First time on mainland
>Knows absolutely nothing about it
>choose Thais as the city to go
>Decides to go exploring
>Find a mountain
>Huge ass Cyclops appears, one hit kill me
Glorious days

Why don't we start on private servers?

Haven and hearth exists

>finally hit 8, got to Carlin
>immediately come across a massive war
>almost die, run into a sewer
>two dudes hitting each other fishing and just chilling
>they give me some fish, spend an hour just talking about the game and stuff
>leave the sewer and run to the depot
>corpses everywhere
>its the same fight still going on
>loot around 5K worth of shit from bodies
>before making it to the dp I get ohko by some mage and lose everything

miss those days

Once the novelty over playing online with other people dies out, you eventually realize MMOs are terrible games.

>doing the lvl 20 quest for the first time with 3 other dudes
>everything goes smooth
>2 guys turn on me and another at the end and kills us
>mfw I realized this was the plan from the start
>mfw I start doing this with random along with a friend
>by the time we get blacklisted we made 50k each
>reroll and live the comfy life

is tibia actually the first mmo though?

You just described the best mmorpg ever made: Lineage 2.
No housing autism tho

this indeed

Tibia came out before Ultima Online, but the Korean MMO Nexus was even earlier. Consider that some people count graphical MUDs as MMOs, though.

Todo mundo que joga/já jogou tibia é viado. Prove me errado. Você não pode.

This is accurate. Half of the novelty of these games was the idea that you were interacting with someone from across the world and you could work together with people. Now that people were given free reign to lean into degeneracy you can't even add some random guy from Awesomenauts without running the risk of them secretly being a scat furry with a 6 paragraph long steam bio.

Couple that with the fact MMOs effectively let you bypass the need or incentive to be social, and increasingly give you the ability to solo shit and you end up with a genre where ever game in it genuinely misses the point of why it existed to begin with.

Not just housing, guild halls / houses / HQs were fucking amazing as well

>not living in the tower in the middle of the map with 50 of your niggas

GENTE, DANIEL PALADINO NA MINHA FRENTE EM ELDRON!

JOGOU UMA MAGIC WALL, JOGOU DUAS MAGIC WALL, GENTE! JOGOU TRÊS MAGIC WALL. NA MINHA FRENTE, GENTE!

Nonsense, Tibia was a game for psychopaths. Your progress deepended on how good you were at lying to strangers and murdering the weak. Even in Rookgard where you can't PVP players would trick newfags into drinking "health" potions and blocking their ascent from the Minotaur room.

Posso, afinal, você não jogou pelo visto.

You were supposed to log the fuck off and not log back for a few hours.
I do remember they eventually made part of it a protection zone, since so many noobs kept getting killed. I just can't recall when, exactly.

Kek that shit was the best part though.

Essa thread é BR. Pare de gastar seu inglês horrível, mano.

>i was like 12yo
>level 11 knight in ab'dendriel
>poor as shit
>red skull sorcerer kills an afk knight right outside the depot
>i drag the body inside and cuck him out of the loot
>MPA and mastermind shield
Guy was fucking livid and hunted me for like one week before I made another character

>user, you should say hail fuck king to the king, see how it goes

>hey dude, wna see something cool?
>come over near the guard and say the magic words "fuckoro"

This game had the best fucking quests.
>10k quest
>brightsword quest
>banshee quest
>longass postman quest
>mintwallin key hunt
>carlinsword in rook
>anni
>paradox tower

Claro que não, viado.

>you end up with a genre where ever game in it genuinely misses the point of why it existed to begin with.
This is the only reason people think all MMOs are shit now. Everyone whines about convenience and not having enough time until the games are essentially single player games that occasionally require other people to advance. But the other people just appear and there is little need for interaction. Back when you had to sit around looking for a group and then walk to the area, back when you couldn’t level solo, back when economies felt substantial and player driven, it actually felt like you accomplished something when you progressed in the game. Feeling like you’re interacting with a living world was the point and the gameplay is interesting enough in that it’s different than any other genre but without player interaction there’s nothing to sustain it. The best part about FFXIV is the housing and RPing, community initiated events. But most people just want to sit in a queue nowadays I guess

Selling dragon shield 5k parcel only you first.

HUNT

>>loot around 5K worth of shit from bodies
wow so you found ONE fire sword? kek

Fast hands motherfucker

>spent all weekend grinding skill points
>OK gonna hunt a bit real quick
>get PKd
>lose all progress and then some

The focus on "raids" or other themepark content is also bad. The main meat of the game should be much more open than that.

>See a guy pushing a bag around
>"steal and yur hunted"
>Yeah lol OK
>Take the bag
>mfw the same guy and a couple of his friends hunt me down and kill me 40 minutes later

I loved the soundtrack in this game. And towns were really based.

Então...

>*opens macro*
Nothing personnel, kid...

This game had a soundtrack? I just listened to final fantasy.

Pretty sure fast hands was just a scam to make players put their shit on the table so you could steal it.

to the faggot who lured that elf arcanist that killed me and made me lose my fire sword all those years ago, fuck you nigger
