Psychic is its only good move. Reflect is ok but Espeon is so frail that it would only help its other team members. Swift is physical in gen 2 so it wouldn't do any real damage.

See I'm talking about those moves from Gen 4 perspective.
Even if they kept Mud Slap (which he frankly never used on me in Gold, kept spamming Swift instead), an Espeon with that moveset is objectively stronger/better than a fucking Lapras with not only having the same weaknesses as Blastoise and giving you a free kill if you have an Electric type, but also having Ice as secondary type with the Ice weaknesses associated with it.
Lapras is a fucking terrible pokemon and it's an objective downgrade from Espeon.
