I played the original Baldurs gate for a little bit when we moved to a new house and the previous guy just had the game laying around, I thought it was an action game but realized I didnt have any control during combat the 2 guys will just keep swinging at each other until 1 is dead. Also characters deaths were permanent when I was used to rpgs like pokemon and final fantasy and shining force.

Only the first act, Larian works weird in that they develop shit in acts, rather than all at once.
They did it with Original Sin 1 and 2 as well (both were in early access for over a year).

To add to this, it also leads to their games being VERY frontloaded by lacking in mid and especially late game.
Both Original Sin 1 and 2 have very lengthy Act 1 but then Act 2 is noticably shorter and Act 3 feels like they ran out of money and time, this applies to both games.
I guarantee you BG3 will be like this too.

They will also never release Acts 2 and 3 in Early Access, since they never did for OS1 and OS2.
The way they do it is they use the Act 1 as eternal testbed in Early Access which is another reason why their Act 1s are always content rich and frontloaded while everything that comes after them is lacking and borderline barebones cause no community input.
