Because of the Holocaust level.

Which is actually the best level, and the most twilight zoney

The holocaust level made the game actually unbeatable in Germany, didn't it?

Before ESRB existed.

Yep. It was part of a massive troll on (((Ellison’s))) part.

On the other hand, he did give us the single most openly redpilled portrayal of what jews actually think of themselves with the PsyCorp in Babylon 5.

I agree, worst one is the playboy's whose name I forgot.

I don't remember a holocaust level. Is that after the rape scene in the elevator?

Thats sucks because Ted is my favorite character, too.

There is a level where you work as a turncoat jew scientist in a concentration camp

You're thinking of Ted
>short story Ted is incredibly paranoid and thinks the others are out to get him
>game Ted is just a flirt who wants to fuck the rape victim
I don't get why they did this

What made it unbeatable?

I believe it was removed entirely, and Nimdok is needed to beat the game

They removed it completely, including the character associated with it, and he's the one character you need for the game to get access to the final area

people werent such massive pussies back then

I like how dream like the zones are. Feels like an actual nightmare you could have.

I heard the game is full of moon logic puzzles. True?

Pretty standard for cyberdreams

what are some good licensed story/movie games, barring the obvious like lotr games or king kong

What does that mean?

It means the game is filled with puzzles that don’t make sense unless you think like a brain damaged developer.

Like about half of Kings Quest 5

Why were famous artists once eager to experiment with videogames whereas now it's only actors that do that for mocap/voice at most?

because video games were this brand new form of entertainment and storytelling that allowed people to experiment with how stories are told, now people don't care about uniqueness and only 200 million dollar movie games sell

It's pretty medium when it comes to puzzle difficulty. The only scenario I found annoying to figure out was the black female's Egyptian shit with the rape theme. The game is separated in six smaller scenarios so you don't have to deal with large areas where you try to use every item with every object you see to force progression.

Savescumming is also encouraged since doing something bad makes your characters lose sanity and perfect ending requires you to finish all the stages with white sanity. If you know what to do you can do the scenarios in matter of minutes so it's not the end of the world if you fuck up one scenario and load from beginning.

The game was actually a friendly version of the book

perfect ending also requires you to do certain actions regardless of sanity, like showing mengele the mirror and giving Gorrister's wife the white liquid

TED

Yeah supposedly Harlan Ellison wanted the perfect ending to be as difficult to get as possible. He didn't want the game to have good ending and he only let the devs implement one on condition that it be nearly impossible to figure out.

It's not that hard to realize that you should use the mirror on Mengele after you use it on Nimdok

what is the perfect ending anyways? I remember clearing the game and reactivating the moon capsules, and I never maxed out any sanity, is that just the good ending? What's the difference between that and the perfect one

best ending is everyone dying with zero regrets, stuff like getting Benny's lover's ghost to forgive him, Ellen getting over her fear of yellow, Gorrister coming to terms with his wife's death, Nimdok realizing what a monster he is and whatever the fuck Ted's issue was

should i play the game or read the novel? im interested because of the tittle

I've only played the game but I think the source matierial is only a very short short story, not a novel.

They're different enough that you should do both, it's also not a novel, it's a short story, it'd take you like an hour to finish the whole thing

The game is unironically better, but the novel is worth reading just because it's so short.

nice, since i have problem reading long stuff

there's an audiobook up on youtube read by the author himself, though for some reason he uses a completely different voice for AM than he does in the game, which in my opinion is some of the best voice acting I've heard in a game
youtube.com/watch?v=EddX9hnhDS4

There's 3 endings
You fucked up in everyone's stories and whoever you played last gets IHNMAIMS'd
You fucked up trying to destroy AM and he finds out about the lunar hibernation colony and destroys the last remnants of humanity
You destroy AM and awaken the lunar colony, reviving humanity

Oh man Ellison had too much fun voicing AM in this one.
