This specifically represents SNK vs Capcom biggest fighting franchises, not really representing the entire company as a whole. Some would say that Mega Man is the true mascot of Capcom, and Terry was the mascot of the NEO GEO line of consoles, which is heavily represented in Smash from Terry’s reveal trailer, the music choices in smash etc. In that sense, Terry is a better fit to be a guest character in Smash bros

exactly, same can be said for Kyo back in the Capcom crossovers. He represented SNK cause he was the current biggest protagonist back in the day, it was a very “of the time” kind of game. But you look back at the company’s history, and at the peak of their popularity (when they were manufacturing the NEO GEO consoles) Terry was clearly their star. He was like what Sonic was to SEGA back in the Mega Drive days and overall left a bigger impression on people
