nothing quite compares to Melee's fast precise movement. every game that came after feels too floaty in comparison.

If they ever port or remake Melee, I hope they add a 1-2 frame input buffer. There really is no reason to not have any buffer whatsoever.
Ryan Scott
Melee has done great to persist as long as it has, but it hasn't been killing the newer games. They just immediately die the second the next game releases. The only exception is Sm4sh, which committed suicide even before Ultimate could launch.
Angel Brooks
Everyone being forced to play Ultimate's dogshit online during the pandemic is what's going to kill Ultimate, not Melee itself
Jacob Diaz
As odd as it seems, I'm sorta nostalgic for that period of time where Melee, PM and Smash 4 all coexisted and were doing fine.
Hell, I even remember watching some Smash 4 tourneys and despite it being a fairly boring game, there was this comfort that it provided.
Andrew Long
Even then, fixing the online should be the last priority in the community's eyes. Expecting Sora and Bandai Namco to have coherent netplay in their current generation games is simply an unrealistic wish, you guys should campaign for more practical fixes to the game's core issues like toning down the native input delay, fixing the hold buffer, and getting the stage hazard toggle on stage select.
Logan Brooks
>input delay, fixing the hold buffer
How the hell is it this bad to begin with? I can't believe how awful Ultimate feels to control. Even Brawl felt better.

>One guy can put functioning rollback in a 20 year old emulated game

Jump has a 3 frame buffer if you use tap jump and a 20 frame buffer if you do it out of hit stun. Fast fall has a 4 frame buffer. You can buffer rolls with the c stick. You can buffer down throw with the c stick. Walk, crouch, and shield can all be buffered
Sebastian Ward
Need a version of Simon fucking up Melee Reaper.

>Smash players move on to the newer and improved sequel

Yes, I know all of this and it's fine. But, there is no escaping the fact that Melee feels really bad to play before you're perfectly attuned to the controls.
Following actions up without any buffer is needlessly precise. If you try inputting a jump to follow up a throw with an aerial, and you're even one frame too early, you get nothing. I'm not suggesting that they do it the Brawl way, where you can far too easily perform frame 1 aerials, but having some kind of buffer would only improve Melee.
Yes, I know you can just git gud and I have been playing Melee for enough years that it feels fine to me as well, but there is still no real reason why it shouldn't be more beginner friendly.

Apex 2015 was the peak of Smash. Prove me wrong.

Ultimate will actually outlast Melee if they can't match the "Everyone is here" in the next gen. The only way people will migrate is if they bring Goku on the next Smash.
Daniel Sanders
that's why i'm hoping smash ultimate is the last one. they really can't top it after this.
Joseph Thompson
Melee sucked.

Japanese devs have no fucking clue how to netcode. Here's Harada getting mad at a game dev that's worked on Killer Instinct (often regarded as the fighting game with the best netcode on the market) and is trying to implement rollback into his own fighter at the moment
Alexander Flores
THERE NEVER WAS A COMPETITIVE MELEE SCENE
YOU FUCKING FAGGOTS GOT TRICKED

I can't, user. No one can.
I miss it so much.

Ult has Ridley so any past game can fuck off for all I care.

Ultimate is really stuck in purgatory right now.
>very few, if any, in-person tournaments are happening due to corona-chan

Based. All was well until Ultishit released and 2020 decided to fuck us over.

This has been the case since release. Come on now.
I think quarantine really has brought forth glaring, frustrating flaws with Ultimate since so many people are playing it online now.
Both in terms of balance, controls and just core gameplay.
Isaiah Howard
Bandai Namco have games with rollback. Other Nintendo games like fucking ARMs use Rollback. Don't use a retarded Tekken dev as some example as to why it can't be done. There's no fucking excuse.
Easton Morris
honestly, who the fuck even cares. When I have a lot of people over, we turn on ultimate because it's new, there's a lot of characters, and 8-player smash. If someone wants to be """competitive""" they can play melee. who cares if a game is dead
Isaac Harris
How would rollback work when playing 2v2? Or 4v4 for that matter? Sounds like a fucking nightmare.
Easton Perez
Joshua Anderson
>How would rollback work when playing 2v2? Or 4v4 for that matter?
Rollback was a netcode standard invented by Quake, it's literally designed to work with more than 2 people.
Henry Adams
Are you people serious? Smash 4 threads were awful back in the day. Every tournament thread I ever participated in was full of people shitposting about "WHEN'S MELEE THIS GAME IS TOO SLOW NICE TR4SH GAME FAGGOTS"
Juan Edwards
Kevin Flores
>WHEN'S MELEE THIS GAME IS TOO SLOW NICE TR4SH GAME FAGGOTS
unironically what part of that statement is incorrect
