Discounting how any of their successors will render these obsolete via BC/ports/otherwise, rate and judge each system on its own merits
8th gen, final verdict
Soulless, soulless, SOUL
>the least interesting choice is the most soulful
Many such cases.
Unironically Wii u has some of the best games of all time
Super Mario 3D World
Bayonetta 2
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
The Wonderful 101
How the fuck is the WiiU the least interesting? The PS4 and Xbox One are just normal consoles with great games. The WiiU at least tried to innovate.
Wiiu was the clear winner, the other two had the same old shit.
Yeah and my retarded little cousin tries to innovate all the time by seeing if he can make his own fecal matter a new type of adhesive, I don't consider him to have a soul.
WiiU had potential, but it didn't know whether it wanted to be like everyone or go full on wacky nintendo and eventually went nowhere. Normalised gyro aiming so there's at least something of worth in it.
Other two were just shit that held PC back.
Wii U was shit but had good games (2D and 3D Marios, Mario Maker, HD Zeldas, BOTW, Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, etc.) 7/10
Xbone had bad hardware and no great exlusives. Halo 5 sucked and made me hate 343. 5/10, would be a 3/10 if the X hadn't come out
PS4 had better hardware than the xbone and had some good exclusives in the mix. Lots were very overhyped (GOW and Persona are just ok and bad [it's a VN lmao] respectively) but stuff like Bloodborne and Spiderman made it worthwhile. 8/10
This.
Wii U is the best.
I loved my wiiu
Xbox 360/OG retro console, bloodborne console and smash console
What was interesting about Xbone or PS4? Everyone bitched at the former for trying to be anything other than 360 Part 2, and the latter gladly wore how it was merely PS3 Part 2 on its sleeve
game wise the wii u had a good run, most of the ps4 and xbox titles were mediocre but the wii u had some pretty fucking nice games and wii backwards compatibility
jailbreaking wise the wii u is the god among men, not every generation do you see a console that has a wii, gamecube, and n64 emulator
ui wise the ps4 is definitely the best option, they didnt push their shitty streaming service like Xbox or feel dated by month 1 like the Wii U
overall I give the Wii U a 8/10, Xbox 7/10 and the PS4 a 7/10
I own all three so let's see what I can do here.
Xboner: Barely worth it if you own a gaming PC or a PS4. I mostly regret purchasing one.
PS4: Best multiplats this gen by far. Had some good exclusives, timed and non-timed.
Wii U: Nintendo's red-headed stepchild actually had a lot of fantastic exclusives. Had the most fun with this one.
Xbone X was better hardware than even the PS4 Pro tho, it completely flipped the power gap around for the remainder of the gen and Xbone started getting the better versions of multiplats (where Sony wasn't moneyhatting exclusive "Better on PlayStation™" features like Spiderman in Avengers, anyway)
It's too bad the XbonerX came so late to the party.
WiiU is the worst console I’ve ever owned
Wii u is the best no doubt
wheres the switch? i know it runs like a 6th gen console but it was released in the middle of the 8th, id say id deserves to be in the image
Switch/SeX/PS5 are 9th gen, even if Switch was released super early and isn't that powerful
(yeah i know wiki calls it 8th, that'll prolly change in time depending on how long it lasts against the other two 9th gen systems)
>PS4
Was a system that won entirely by default and it shows. Still pretty good for a while with the third party support, but also an incredibly unambitious platform. Plus the way Sony started snubbing non-AAA Jap devs/games as a platform policy is bullshit. 7/10
>Xbox One
Not fair to directly judge it based on the shitty prerelease plans they dropped, but it did affect the platform. Extremely little reason to own a non-X Xbone due to practically no exclusives. 5/10
>WiiU
A decent idea for a console but Nintendo butchered it big-time. A lot of its big new titles were spinoffs INSTEAD of mainline entries for franchises, and even first party games were sparse thanks to their breadwinner (the 3DS) understandably siphoning most effort. 4/10
Wasted potential: the generation
I was hyped for 8th gen, but I've come out of it incredibly jaded
No shit, 'free' polyfiller games are what dominated this gen. I have little hope for gen 9 as game development is just going to get worse
>polyfiller
nani?
>that pic
you mean fourth gen?
Mate it's just a fucking bigger vita
7th gen - shit
8th gen - shittier
I won't rate them separately, but that's how I feel about this gen as a whole. And I'm betting 9th gen will be even worse. God fuck the modern entertainment industry, it's all garbage
the wii u had the best arena shooter of the gen with Splatoon, and for that its my favorite
PS4 sold more than the WiiU and the Xbox1 combined, and is the second highest selling console of all time.
>four out of the top five highest selling consoles are the 4 playstations
er, no? gaming generations have been a thing since the 70s
Xbone
>sales/popularity
Destroyed itself at the beginning, Don Mattrick ensured that Xbone would be hated by many and as a result it took years to win backthe people and their trust in the brand
>console/library itself
It missed out on a bunch of japanese playstation third party games that could've been on it had it not sabotaged itself so much.
After the overhaul and mid-generation upgrade the console was more than powerful enough to run games better than the other two but power was never the issue, it was the games and stigma from 2013
Wii U
>sales/popularity
Wii U doomed itself when the first ads came out. The simple problem was nobody, not even Nintendo knew who to market the device to.
Most of general public didn't know whether it was an add-on for the Wii or not and the weird dichotomy of trying to cater to both casuals for the gimmick and hardcores for the increased power resulted into a messy image that the console would carry for the rest of the gen.
It was also missing some essential nintendo games. There was no 3D sandbox Mario game and Zelda would be pushed back until the next generation. This left the console in a disastrous state
>console/library
It arguably had the most solid lineup of games despite missing out on a few essential games. While the console itself wasn't exactly powerful the online infrastructure with the Miiverse is superior to the Switch and it atleast had a built-in LAN port.
Sony
>sales/popularity
The PS4 experienced crazy amounts of popularity and sold a shitton of consoles and thus Sony grew arrogant with a number of policies and corporate decisions which may or may not turn off some audiences.
It's important to remember that they did well not because they did something amazing on their own but because their competition fucked up.
>console/library
Need I say it? It got priority with every third party releasing something on it.
This generation fucking sucked but the handhelds were based after hacking, 2/10
>goldface
>seven years later
Man at least pre-PS4 Snoys knew their place, hoping PS5's failure knocks them back down a peg
This is an incredibly depressing fact considering it was the most unambitious and "basic bitch" system of the three
